Jared McCann Lifts Kraken With Huge Week And Career Milestone

A trio of standout performances lit up the NHL this week, with stars stepping up in pivotal moments to shape the playoff race.

NHL Three Stars of the Week: McCann’s Milestone, Vasilevskiy’s Dominance, Konecny’s Scoring Surge

The NHL’s weekly honors are out, and this time around, it’s a trio of players making serious noise for their clubs-whether it’s pushing for playoff position, anchoring a division lead, or simply refusing to go quiet in a tough stretch. Let’s break down why Jared McCann, Andrei Vasilevskiy, and Travis Konecny earned their spots as the league’s First, Second, and Third Stars of the Week.

First Star: Jared McCann, LW, Seattle Kraken

Jared McCann is heating up, and so are the Kraken.

The Seattle winger put up a blistering 4 goals and 3 assists over three games, helping the Kraken to a perfect week and vaulting them into third place in the Pacific Division. McCann kicked things off with a statement performance against the Capitals on Jan. 27-2 goals, 2 assists, and his 26th career game-winner in a 5-1 rout. That four-point night marked just the second time in his career he’s hit that mark, the first coming nearly two years ago against Vancouver.

But he didn’t stop there. McCann followed it up with another multi-point outing-1 goal, 1 assist-against the Maple Leafs on Jan. 29, his sixth multi-point game of the season.

He wrapped the week by hitting a major milestone: his 200th career NHL goal (134 of those with Seattle) in a 3-2 win over the Golden Knights on Jan. 31.

At 29 years old, McCann continues to be the Kraken’s offensive heartbeat. He already holds the franchise records for goals and points, and despite missing nearly half the season (he’s played in just 30 of Seattle’s 54 games), he’s second on the team in goals (16) and sixth in points (29). When he’s in the lineup, he’s producing-and right now, he’s doing it when it matters most.

Second Star: Andrei Vasilevskiy, G, Tampa Bay Lightning

If there were any doubts about whether Andrei Vasilevskiy is still one of the NHL’s elite netminders, this past week should silence them.

The Lightning goaltender went a perfect 3-0-0, sporting a 1.95 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage, and a shutout. He started the week by blanking the Utah Mammoth with 28 saves on Jan. 26-marking the 42nd shutout of his career.

Then came a tidy 24-save effort in a 4-1 win over the Jets on Jan. 29.

But the real showstopper came under the bright lights of the 2026 Stadium Series on Feb. 1.

In front of 64,617 fans at Raymond James Stadium, Vasilevskiy helped engineer a wild comeback. Tampa Bay clawed back from a 5-1 deficit to beat the Bruins 6-5 in a shootout, and Vasilevskiy was clutch-29 saves in regulation and overtime, plus a clean sheet in the shootout, stopping all three Boston attempts.

Now riding a 14-0-1 stretch dating back to Dec. 20, the 31-year-old is putting together another Vezina-caliber campaign. He leads the league in goals-against average (2.12), is tied for the most wins (25), and sits second in save percentage (.919). In 35 games this season, he’s 25-7-3-and playing like a man determined to bring Tampa Bay back to the top.

Third Star: Travis Konecny, RW, Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers may be struggling, but Travis Konecny is doing everything he can to keep them in the fight.

Philadelphia went 0-3-1 over the week, but Konecny was involved in seven of the team’s eight total goals-scoring five and assisting on two. After being shut out by the Islanders on Jan.

26, Konecny responded with his third career hat trick in a 5-3 loss to Columbus on Jan. 28.

He followed that up with back-to-back 1-goal, 1-assist performances against Boston and Los Angeles.

The 28-year-old is now in his 10th NHL season-all with the Flyers-and he’s been their offensive engine all year. He leads the team in goals (22), assists (30), and points (52) through 53 games.

Even in a winless week, Konecny’s production stood out. He’s not just racking up stats-he’s setting the tone for a team trying to stay in the playoff hunt.

Bottom Line:
McCann is powering the Kraken’s playoff push, Vasilevskiy is back to his dominant self, and Konecny is doing everything short of putting the puck in the net himself and stopping it, too. As the playoff race tightens, performances like these don’t just earn weekly honors-they shift momentum, define seasons, and remind us just how much star power this league has to offer.
