Former Blue Jacket Mason Marchment Just Landed A Massive Long Term Deal

The San Jose Sharks make a strategic move by signing Mason Marchment, boosting their roster with experience and skill as they aim for greater success.

The San Jose Sharks have added Mason Marchment on a five-year deal worth $7 million per season, according to Elliotte Friedman.

Marchment is stepping into a Sharks group that’s been trending in the right direction and now has even more young talent in the mix up front. San Jose improved by 34 points last season from 2024-25, when it finished dead last in the NHL, and the 31-year-old winger gives Ryan Warsofsky’s team a veteran voice along with another scoring option.

Last season, Marchment split time between the Seattle Kraken and Columbus Blue Jackets after a December trade to Columbus. He put up four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 29 games with Seattle, then finished with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 39 games with the Blue Jackets. That gave him 45 points across the two teams.

Since making his NHL debut in 2019-20, the undrafted Ontario native has piled up 95 goals and 139 assists for 234 points in 370 regular-season games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, Kraken, and Blue Jackets. He has also produced 11 goals and eight assists for 19 points in 59 playoff games. His top season came with Dallas in 2023-24, when he posted 22 goals and 31 assists for 53 points in 81 games.

Marchment was previously on a four-year contract carrying a $4.5 million AAV that he signed with the Stars in 2022.

There’s also a family tie here. Marchment’s late father, Bryan Marchment, played for the Sharks from 1997-98 through 2002-03 and later worked for the organization as both a scout and in player development.

Kraken Just Doubled Down On A Costly Scoring Bet

Seattle has kept leaning into the idea that a swing for offense can be worth the price, and the latest move fits that pattern. General manager Jason Botterill announced the Kraken have signed forward Mackie Samoskevich to a three-year contract, adding another young piece to a roster that has been searching for more finishing power.

Samoskevich now becomes part of the conversation in Seattle not just as a new name, but as a player the organization believes can help tilt the balance toward more goals. Botterill has framed him as a proven winner who brings speed and scoring ability, and the deal gives the Kraken a clearer commitment to that bet as they keep building around a forward group with room to grow. Kraken Prospects Are Starting To Put The Rest Of Hockey On Notice

The Krakens prospect pipeline is getting a notable mid-summer spotlight, with five young players headed to the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase. The group includes Chase Reid, Casey Mutryn and Blake Fiddler for Team USA, along with Ola Palme and Loke Krantz for Team Sweden, a sign that Seattles drafting and development work is starting to spread across more than one national program.

The Showcase runs from July 26 to Aug. 1 at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario, and it offers one of the better early gauges of where those players stand in the bigger picture. Reids path is especially worth watching given his Michigan State commitment, and hell be working under Team USA coach Adam Nightingale, which adds another layer of familiarity to a week that could tell us plenty about how far this Kraken prospect class has come.
