Heading into the 2026-27 season, the San Jose Sharks’ prospect pool is spread across plenty of different leagues, and Russia is one of the tougher places to track. There isn’t a long list to sort through, but there are a couple of names worth watching as the year unfolds.
The one Sharks prospect slated to begin the season in the Kontinental Hockey League is Yegor Rimashevsky. He’s about to enter his third full season at the KHL level, and last season he actually slipped offensively. Through 164 total KHL games with Dynamo Moskva, Rimashevsky has put up 22 goals and 19 assists for 41 points.
Rimashevsky has long been viewed as a long-shot prospect, even after the Sharks took him 203rd overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. The concerns around him have centered on his skating, along with a general lack of work ethic.
The other notable name is Ilyas Magomedsultanov, San Jose’s fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old defenseman is expected to stay in the MHL this season, though he did get a few looks with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL last year. Of this small Russian group, he looks like the most likely to eventually make the move to North America, and he could be one to monitor closely if he gets another shot in the KHL.
For now, the Sharks don’t have much Russian prospect intrigue overall. Still, Magomedsultanov gives this group at least a little something to follow.
