Scott Reedy is getting another shot to prove he belongs, signing a professional tryout (PTO) with the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders. The 26-year-old forward has yet to suit up this season, but that’s about to change as he joins a team looking for depth and energy up front.
Reedy’s journey has been one of persistence. After being drafted 102nd overall by the San Jose Sharks in 2017, he worked his way through the system, making his NHL debut during the 2021-22 season.
In 35 games with the Sharks that year, he posted seven goals and two assists-solid production for a player trying to carve out a role at the top level. He also added 14 hits and 26 blocked shots, showing he wasn’t afraid to get into the dirty areas and contribute defensively.
But since that NHL stint, Reedy’s path has mostly run through the AHL. He spent the bulk of his time with the San Jose Barracuda, where he played 93 games across three seasons.
His best stretch came in 2021-22, when he notched 18 goals and 27 points in just 38 games-a career high in every major offensive category at the AHL level. That kind of scoring punch from a forward with NHL experience makes him an intriguing addition for Bridgeport.
Last season, Reedy split time between the Texas Stars and the Milwaukee Admirals. He was productive in limited action with Texas, tallying five goals and seven points in 12 games.
With Milwaukee, he added four goals and five assists in 25 games, finishing with a plus-1 rating. While not eye-popping numbers, they point to a player who can contribute in a middle-six role and provide some offensive spark when given the opportunity.
Now, with this PTO, Reedy has a chance to get back on the ice and show he still has something to offer. For Bridgeport, it’s a low-risk move with potential upside-adding a forward who brings a mix of pro experience, scoring ability, and a history of stepping up when called upon. For Reedy, it’s a shot at redemption and a chance to remind everyone why he cracked an NHL lineup not that long ago.
Whether this stint leads to a longer stay in Bridgeport or opens the door to another opportunity down the line, Reedy’s next chapter is about to begin. And if his past AHL performances are any indication, he’s not showing up just to blend in.
