The San Jose Sharks hit the ice for the second half of their weekend doubleheader, taking on the Ottawa Senators in Canada's capital. The game started with a bang as the Sharks got an early power play, thanks to Tim Stutzle's high-sticking penalty on Michael Misa. Despite the advantage, the Sharks couldn't capitalize.
The Senators soon found themselves with a power play of their own when John Klingberg was called for interference. Ottawa took full advantage, tying the game with a bit of luck as Ferraro inadvertently deflected the puck into his own net, crediting the goal to Batherson.
Tyler Toffoli put the Sharks back on top, notching his 18th goal by redirecting a Ferraro slapshot past Linus Ullmark. As the first period wound down, Vincent Desharnais was penalized for cross-checking Claude Giroux, but the Sharks held onto their 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.
The second period saw Warren Foegele leveling the score with his ninth goal of the season. The Sharks quickly responded, with Collin Graf netting his 19th after a slick pass from Macklin Celebrini, making it 3-2.
As the period progressed, Dmitry Orlov was called for hooking former Shark Fabian Zetterlund, giving Ottawa another power play. Zetterlund made the most of it, scoring a one-timer to tie the game at 3-3. Just a minute later, a costly turnover by Graf led to Tyler Kleven's third goal of the season, putting the Senators ahead 4-3.
With time ticking down in the second, Artem Zub's roughing penalty gave the Sharks a chance to even things up. Tim Stutzle nearly added to Ottawa's lead with a shorthanded attempt, but Brossoit stood tall, keeping the game within reach as the period ended with the Senators up 4-3.
The third period began with Ottawa successfully killing off the remaining penalty time. Just over three minutes in, Michael Misa continued his scoring streak, firing a shot from the hash marks that beat Ullmark glove side, tying the game once again.
Ottawa regained the lead with under seven minutes left when a Zub slapshot deflected off Batherson into the net, making it 5-4. Dylan Cozens added another for the Senators, extending their lead to 6-4. Brady Tkachuk sealed the deal with an empty-netter, leaving Celebrini visibly frustrated as the Senators claimed a 7-4 victory.
Despite leading three times, the Sharks couldn't hold on and will now head to Alberta to face the Edmonton Oilers in a crucial Pacific Division showdown with playoff implications.
