San Jose Sharks Prospect Chernyshov Hospitalized After Intense Hit by Matheson

After a high hit left him struggling on the ice, Igor Chernyshov's abrupt exit to the hospital casts uncertainty over his return to the game.

In a tense moment on the ice, San Jose Sharks prospect Igor Chernyshov experienced a tough hit from Mike Matheson, leaving fans and teammates holding their breath. On his first shift back with the Sharks after being recalled from the Barracuda, Chernyshov was met with what looked like a clothesline, possibly because he was about to outpace the defenseman.

The impact was severe, and Chernyshov appeared to be knocked out momentarily. As he attempted to rise, he stumbled twice before being assisted off the ice by Sharks trainer Will Leonard and teammate Vincent Desharnais. Leonard was seen holding a towel to the right side of Chernyshov’s forehead, indicating the seriousness of the hit.

Despite the intensity of the collision, no penalty was called on Matheson. According to Sharks PR, Chernyshov will not be returning to the game and is currently undergoing evaluation. His center for the night, Macklin Celebrini, expressed concern during an intermission interview, describing the incident as "really scary."

Chernyshov has been taken to the hospital for further examination, and the entire hockey community is sending their best wishes for his recovery.
