San Jose, CA - The San Jose Barracuda have made a strategic move by signing defenseman Jake Boltmann to a professional tryout. This decision, announced by General Manager Joe Will, could bolster their defensive lineup as they gear up for the final stretch of the season.
Boltmann, at 24, has shown promise with the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads this season. Over 53 games, he’s racked up 16 points with one goal and 15 assists, along with 40 penalty minutes and a solid plus-five rating. His stats reflect a player who can contribute both offensively and defensively, making him a versatile addition to the Barracuda’s roster.
Hailing from Edina, Minnesota, Boltmann wrapped up his college hockey career at Northeastern last year, where he tallied two goals and 10 assists in 35 games. Before his stint with the Huskies, he spent four seasons honing his skills at Notre Dame. His journey from college to the professional ranks highlights his dedication and growth as a player.
Standing at six-foot-one and weighing in at 201 pounds, Boltmann is a right-shot defender with a physical presence on the ice. Originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft, he brings a pedigree that the Barracuda hope to leverage.
The Barracuda are set to wrap up their eight-game series against the Tucson Roadrunners on Sunday. Following this, they’ll return to Tech CU Arena to face the Coachella Valley Firebirds on March 18 for Cuda Classroom Day.
