Evander Kane is pushing back after a former teammate painted an ugly picture of what it was like to share a locker room with him.
Kurtis Gabriel recently told a story that put Kane in a harsh light, describing late arrivals to meetings, flip-flops, and behavior he said drained the room. Gabriel didn’t soften his stance either, saying, “I meant everything I said.
I did not enjoy my time playing with you at all…it was absurd to be honest. This is quite literally the “lightest” story I could tell about you…”
Gabriel’s account centered on Kane walking into a team meeting late, underdressed, and showing disrespect toward his Sharks teammates. He also suggested Kane was dealing with pain inside that spilled into his behavior. According to Gabriel, he confronted Kane at the time, and Kane backed off.
Kane clearly saw the interview catch fire and decided not to let it hang out there unanswered.

He added in the same post:

The timing matters here. Kane is still trying to find his next landing spot as an unrestricted free agent, and this kind of storyline does him no favors. The image of a player with a reputation for being difficult to deal with is exactly the sort of thing teams notice when they’re deciding whether to hand out a contract.
Whether Kane ever follows through on the “facts” and “receipts” he says he has is another question entirely. Given his history, plenty of people are likely to meet any future version of his side with skepticism. The source of that skepticism is not hard to find: Kane was suspended for 21 games without pay by the NHL on Monday for an “established violation” of the NHL/NHLPA COVID-19 protocol after submitting a fake vaccination card.
There’s also the matter of how this all looks from the outside. Kane taking the argument to social media only keeps the spotlight on the very drama teams are trying to avoid.
Still, the story of Kane as a teammate isn’t uniformly negative. He had a strong stretch with the Edmonton Oilers before being traded to the Canucks, and while there was some friction at times, he was also viewed as a solid teammate and a meaningful part of the community.
