The San Francisco Giants are on a mission to rekindle the championship magic that once defined them, and with Buster Posey at the helm as president of baseball operations, they're making serious strides. Posey, a three-time World Series champion himself, is crafting a roster that has the Bay Area buzzing with anticipation.
Matt Chapman, the Giants' steadfast third baseman, has witnessed this transformation firsthand. In a recent conversation on "Giants Talk," Chapman shared his excitement about the team's evolution.
"The change has been significant," Chapman noted. "That's why I chose to stay - I believed in Buster's vision to build a perennial contender, aiming for division titles and World Series glory."
Posey's strategy was clear during the offseason, bringing in top-tier talent like three-time All-Star Luis Arráez and Gold Glove outfielder Harrison Bader. These additions complement a roster already featuring Chapman, shortstop Willy Adames, two-time Silver Slugger Rafael Devers, and star pitcher Logan Webb.
Chapman expressed his pride in being part of this resurgence. "I'm proud to be a Giant," he said.
"I feel like my decision to stay helped attract others. Willy [Adames] came because I was here, and Devers followed suit.
Now, players like Bader and Arráez are choosing San Francisco because they see what we're building. There's a real buzz around this team."
Since joining the Giants in 2024, Chapman has been a cornerstone, both offensively and defensively. With a .240/.448/.781 slash line, 139 RBIs, and 48 home runs over 282 games, his impact is undeniable. His commitment was cemented with a six-year, $151 million contract extension, ensuring he'll be a Giant through 2030.
Chapman also credited teammate Logan Webb for his influence. "I thank [Logan Webb] for bringing me here," Chapman added.
"Webby has been pivotal from the start. Bringing in guys like Robbie [Ray] and myself was part of a bigger plan, and this year, I believe we'll see a significant leap forward."
As the Giants gear up for their season opener against the New York Yankees on March 25, the excitement is palpable. With a roster stacked with talent like Chapman, Webb, Devers, and Arráez, San Francisco is poised to make a serious playoff push. The Giants are back in the hunt, and they’re ready to make some noise.
