Giants Stun Rivals by Signing Dodgers' World Series Hero

Despite past struggles, the Giants hope Brent Honeywell can bounce back and bolster their top-ranked bullpen under new management.

The San Francisco Giants are gearing up for the challenge of dethroning the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. In a strategic move, they've signed Brent Honeywell to a minor league deal, echoing a tactic often used by their rivals. While the financial details remain under wraps, this decision is more about potential than price.

Honeywell, who was part of the Dodgers' 2024 World Series-winning roster, had a rough outing, surrendering five earned runs in just one inning. Yet, the Giants are looking beyond that single performance, considering his overall contributions.

Over three MLB seasons, Honeywell has taken the mound in 63 games, posting a 4.10 ERA with a 67/37 K/BB ratio. His 2024 season was split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Dodgers, where he impressed with a 2.63 ERA and an 18/11 K/BB ratio over 37.2 innings.

After the Dodgers non-tendered him, Honeywell sat out the 2025 season, adding a layer of risk to the Giants' decision. However, with a minor league contract, the financial stakes are low, making this a calculated gamble.

The Giants' bullpen was a powerhouse in 2025, boasting a 1.08 ERA, third-best in the league. Under the guidance of new manager Tony Vitello, they aim to maintain their dominance. Honeywell's task is to carve out a spot for himself in this elite bullpen during spring training, where he’ll have the chance to show Vitello and his staff what he can bring to the table.

San Francisco sees potential in Honeywell, and if he can tap into it, he might just be a key piece in their quest to outshine the Dodgers.
