Seahawks Niners Clash Took An Ugly Turn Fans Need To See

49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw's on-field aggression sparks controversy as he faces ejection for a dangerous headbutt against an opposing player.

Dre Greenlaw’s afternoon against the Seahawks ended the wrong way in a hurry.

The 49ers linebacker was ejected in the second quarter after a sideline confrontation turned into a headbutt to the face of Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV, who was not wearing a helmet. The hit drew a reaction fast, and it left Jones bleeding from the face before officials stepped in.

The sequence started with 6:04 left in the second quarter, when Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold scrambled for a five-yard gain toward the Seattle sideline. Greenlaw chased the play, then added an extra push after Darnold had already stepped out of bounds. That late hit brought a 15-yard personal foul flag from the officials.

From there, things escalated near the Seahawks bench. Multiple Seattle players came over to confront Greenlaw, and the exchange quickly turned into a shouting match between Greenlaw and Jones.

Greenlaw still had his helmet on. Jones did not.

Greenlaw then leaned in and headbutted Jones in the face, triggering an immediate stoppage as officials moved in to separate the players and review the non-football act. The league office then informed the referees to disqualify Greenlaw, and the 49ers defender was ejected from the game.

The ejection added another ugly moment to a stretch that has already put Greenlaw in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Two weeks ago, after San Francisco’s 24-14 win over the Denver Broncos, he confronted head coach Sean Payton at midfield during the handshake line and shouted, “Hey! You get the f- off my field!”

49ers Hot Start Suddenly Comes With A Roster Concern

A perfect start has not kept San Francisco from scanning the market for help as the NFL trade deadline nears. General manager John Lynch said the 49ers are still looking for ways to improve the roster, a familiar posture for a team that believes it can contend now and is trying to protect itself against the wear and tear that comes with a long season.

The concern is on the defensive side, where injuries have piled up and left the front short on depth. San Francisco has 16 players on injured reserve, though some expected returns are coming, and the team could still target reinforcements in the trenches, with an interior defender and an edge rusher among the spots under consideration. Christian McCaffrey Shares A Big Family Milestone During 49ers Season

Christian McCaffreys season has come with a major family milestone as well. The 49ers running back and his wife, Olivia Culpo, shared family photos on Oct. 10 announcing the birth of their second child, adding a personal highlight to an already busy stretch of football life in San Francisco.

The baby arrived on Sept. 29, and the timing was no accident. Culpo arranged the delivery around a 49ers off day so McCaffrey could be there, a detail that underscores how carefully the family worked to make the moment fit within the grind of the season. Friends, family and NFL connections quickly sent congratulations, and for McCaffrey, the newest chapter at home now runs alongside everything happening on the field. [Read more 🡒]

49ers Defense Suddenly Has A Week 5 Problem And Possible Boost

The 49ers continue to lean into the kind of defensive flexibility Kyle Shanahan has talked about, with Emmanwori showing up in multiple spots as part of a unit built to move pieces around and adjust on the fly. It is the sort of versatility that has helped San Francisco survive early-season bumps, and it has also kept the defense stocked with options even as the rotation has shifted from week to week.

Dre Greenlaws edge is part of that identity, though it comes with a cost, and Shanahan has made clear that his aggressive style is not exactly a passive one. The bigger swing could come next week, when help along the defensive line may finally be closer, giving the 49ers a chance to add some badly needed juice before a matchup with Washington.
