Nick Bosa’s return to the field was the real story Thursday night. The fake quote floating around social media wasn’t.
After missing part of training camp while coming back from a torn ACL, there was uncertainty about how much the San Francisco 49ers star would play in the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. He answered that question with a strong night in a 27-7 win, finishing with four tackles, two tackles for loss and a hit on the quarterback.
But before kickoff, an account called “NFL Drop” posted a fabricated quote that falsely tied Bosa to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The post claimed Bosa said, “Today it means more, I’m winning this for him.” Bosa never said it, but the quote still spread fast, drawing more than 290,000 views in less than a day and fooling plenty of people before and during the game.
The Bosa post fits a familiar pattern around the NFL. During the 2025 season, 49ers tight end George Kittle dealt with a similar fake quote linked to Kirk.
Kittle pushed back directly, writing, “Couple of things.. this is a fake quote,” Kittle wrote. “I hope most of you realize that.
Also, that above account only posts fake news/reports, please ignore them. The wild messages I’m receiving from people made me have to address it.

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud was also hit with a similar fake post during the 2025 season.
In the end, Bosa’s play was what mattered most. His performance helped San Francisco open the season with a convincing victory, even if social media tried to turn the night into something else.
