Daejon Love’s federal arrest last month is already grim enough on its own. Now a new video circulating on social media is adding another layer to the story, with Love heard pitching a flashy NFL lifestyle to a stripper while boasting about his money, status, and other women.
That video comes after authorities accused Love of running an elaborate, multi-state romance scam that allegedly cheated at least 26 women out of more than $1.3 million. The women were contacted on dating apps including Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble, where Love reportedly used multiple aliases, among them Jon Love and Jordan Love.
According to the reporting, Love built fake identities to make himself look like a wealthy, successful man. He claimed to be a wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and also presented himself as a luxury real estate investor. He even went so far as to buy a custom $1,100 replica 49ers helmet, film a fake contract signing, and use phone apps to show off invented multi-million-dollar bank balances.
Love, 35, was never on the 49ers roster.
In the video now making the rounds, Love is heard talking himself up to a dancer, calling himself the biggest tipper in the room. He also said phone numbers were sometimes collected to set women up with friends.
Authorities say the scheme stretched over four years and affected victims in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. The estimated losses total $1.3 million.
The operation ended when FBI agents tracked Love and his accomplice to the Boise Airport in Idaho, where they were arrested while Love was on his way to meet more potential victims. Both men now face federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, charges that each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
