T.J. Houshmandzadeh, the former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, didn't hold back when discussing Brandon Aiyuk's current market value after his split with the San Francisco 49ers. Speaking candidly, Houshmandzadeh warned NFL executives that offering Aiyuk a hefty contract could be a career-ending move.
"If anybody gives him a crazy amount of money," Houshmandzadeh remarked, "they should be fired tomorrow. No owner will let a GM pay B.A. that way given his recent behavior in San Francisco. If you want to play for $5 million with some incentives, that's one thing."
While acknowledging Aiyuk's undeniable talent, Houshmandzadeh highlighted trust as the main concern. The 49ers cut ties in March by voiding his remaining guaranteed money.
This decision followed reports of Aiyuk not adhering to his $120 million extension terms, including missing mandatory rehab for ACL/MCL injuries and team meetings. San Francisco is now exploring trade options ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Potential Landing Spots for Brandon Aiyuk
Brandon Aiyuk presents a classic high-risk, high-reward scenario rather than being a $30-million-per-year superstar. The Washington Commanders have emerged as frontrunners to acquire him, largely due to quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The duo previously teamed up at Arizona State, and Aiyuk has expressed a keen interest in reuniting. With the Commanders seeking a dependable playmaker to complement Terry McLaurin, Aiyuk could be a perfect fit.
The Cleveland Browns are also in the mix, eager to inject life into an offense that struggled with consistency last season. With questions about their depth and an aging core, Aiyuk might just be the spark needed for quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson or Shedeur Sanders.
Meanwhile, despite their 2026 Super Bowl appearance, the New England Patriots faced criticism for a lackluster passing attack. Coach Mike Vrabel is on the hunt for more offensive firepower to aid Drake Maye's development, making Aiyuk an intriguing option.
