The Cleveland Browns wrapped up the opening days of free agency with a strategic addition to their roster. On Friday night, they secured defensive tackle Kalia Davis from the San Francisco 49ers.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Davis inked a one-year deal worth up to $3 million. This move looks promising on paper, as Davis was a consistent presence for San Francisco, starting all 17 games last season.
ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi highlights the significance of this acquisition: "Browns add some depth on the defensive line with the signing of Kalia Davis. 27 years old, a sixth-round pick in 2022. Started all 17 games last season.
Only 1.5 career sacks, but he’s played the run well. He had a run stop win rate in 2025 that ranked 19th among all defensive linemen, just behind Mason Graham."
Mason Graham, the Browns' future centerpiece on the defensive line, will be entering his second year after being the No. 5 overall pick out of Michigan. While Graham is a key player, football is a team sport, and adding depth with Davis is a smart move.
Oyefusi also points out the tactical fit: "There’s a clear scheme fit here, as he played under Robert Saleh last season. Could be good depth behind Maliek Collins. Cleveland’s run defense took a hit after Collins' season-ending quad injury."
The Browns are gearing up for a pivotal season. With Todd Monken taking over from Kevin Stefanski, the team is eager to show progress. Every signing counts, especially when it involves a player with experience from a successful team.
