Browns Eyeing Packers Star in $42 Million Free Agent Pursuit

Could the Browns land their ideal left tackle as free agency dominoes fall, positioning them to lead the race for Rasheed Walker despite league-wide hesitations?

As the free agency frenzy continues, one name that has everyone buzzing is former Green Bay Packers left tackle Rasheed Walker. Known for his prowess on the offensive line, Walker has hit the market as one of the top linemen available. Yet, surprisingly, the rumor mill has been relatively quiet regarding potential suitors.

The main reason for this lull? Teams are keeping a close eye on the situation with San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams. Should Williams and the Niners fail to agree on a reworked deal to lower his cap hit, a trade could be in the cards, and teams are eager to see how that scenario unfolds.

According to Justis Mosqueda from Acme Packing Company, offers for Walker are indeed on the table, but they're not set in stone. "There's offers on the table [for Walker], but aren't really committable right now, because teams are waiting to see what happens with Williams," Mosqueda noted.

Expectations are high that Walker will command a contract surpassing the annual average of Tennessee Titans left tackle Dan Moore, which stands at $20.5 million. However, teams are hesitant to extend a deal beyond two years, as Mosqueda points out.

If Walker lands a two-year deal with an annual average value exceeding Moore’s, we're looking at a potential contract totaling around $42 million. Not a bad payday for the former Packers starter.

Among the teams reportedly eyeing Walker are the Cleveland Browns, who have a glaring need at left tackle with Cam Robinson entering free agency. The Browns appear to be front-runners in the Walker sweepstakes.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs are considered favorites to land Williams, should he become available. Both players are attracting interest from multiple teams, adding intrigue to the unfolding drama.

Mosqueda shared, "Was told the favorites for these guys are CLE (Walker) and KC (Williams, if SF for sure makes him available), but multiple teams are involved for both."

While the clock ticks for San Francisco and Williams, the Niners aren't in a rush to finalize anything, which could further delay Walker's signing. As teams play the waiting game, the anticipation builds, promising an exciting conclusion to this free agency saga.
