Brock Purdy opened the new season with a sharp performance and a 27-7 win for the San Francisco 49ers over the Los Angeles Rams, but the aftermath of that game took on a life of its own online.
On the field, Purdy shook off an early first-half interception and settled in quickly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He finished 25 of 34 for 205 yards, added 29 rushing yards on five carries, and later put the game away with three touchdown passes. He found Demarcus Robinson, Mike Evans, and Deebo Samuel, and his night ended with a 105.6 passer rating.
The viral buzz, though, came from a fake version of Purdy that had social media doing double takes. An AI-created video showed an animated Brock Purdy talking trash after carving up the Rams, and it racked up more than 1.1 million views and counting.
The fake Purdy’s lines were wild enough to make the clip explode: “Let me feed you. If you grab me, I’mma bite you.
I swear to God, if you grab me, I’mma bite the f-k out you. You going to let me go,” followed by, “People don’t understand what I meant by fighting to survive.
I’m fighting like my life on the line. Don’t grab me and think, ‘ Oh, you’re stronger than me,” it continued to say.
Plenty of fans admitted they couldn’t tell what was real at first. “Bruh, I can’t tell if this is AI or not.
When did Purdy change his voice?” one fan said.
Another wrote, “Ai sh-t crazy, the only way you know it’s not real is because you know that’s not his character,” while a third added, “Alright, bruh, AI is starting to become too realistic.. I’m scared now,”.
A fourth simply called him, “Glock Purdy,”.
Even former NFL wideout Dez Bryant got a kick out of it.
