Brandon Aiyuk Situation Has Become Bigger Than Any Cowboys Rumor

Despite persistent rumors, Brandon Aiyuk's troubled past and strained relationships make him an unlikely candidate for the Dallas Cowboys' roster.

The Brandon Aiyuk-to-Dallas chatter has already run into a wall.

What looked like a speculative Cowboys rumor quickly lost steam once the full picture around Aiyuk’s situation in San Francisco came into focus. His standing with the 49ers has deteriorated badly since he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus in Week 7 of the 2024 season, and the problems have gone well beyond the injury itself.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Aiyuk missed mandatory rehab sessions with the team’s medical staff during his recovery. The 49ers answered by voiding a $24.9 million option bonus tied to his 2026 guarantees. Kyle Shanahan said that decision was worked out internally in July 2025, though it wasn’t made public until that November.

The relationship only worsened from there. Aiyuk reportedly stopped communicating with the coaching staff and front office, and San Francisco eventually put him on the reserve/left squad list in December. Since then, he has said on social media that he will not apply for league reinstatement, which prevents the 49ers from releasing him.

He has also taken shots at the NFLPA over how it handled his contract grievance. In a deleted post, he went after Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels after rumors tied him to a trade there. Aiyuk, the Northern Nevada native, signed a four-year, $120 million extension in August 2024, but the fallout from his actions has damaged both that deal and his reputation around the league.

That’s the backdrop behind the latest Cowboys speculation, and it’s why the idea doesn’t make much sense. NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman posted on X that Polymarket had Dallas at a 21% chance to land Aiyuk, either through a trade or a free-agent deal. That number has since fallen below 1%, with the Baltimore Ravens listed as the favorite at 4%.

Cowboys analyst Law Thomas of Law Nation Media was even more blunt on social media, writing, "I can predict that this is a 0% chance."

And for Dallas, the fit looks even thinner when you factor in the money. Jerry Jones has never shied away from big-name swings, but absorbing Aiyuk’s $120 million contract while also dealing with his knee injuries and the team conflict that has followed him is a steep ask. The Cowboys are already tied financially to CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, which leaves no real room for Aiyuk on the offensive roster.

49ers Fans Hit With Another Disturbing Brandon Aiyuk Twist

Brandon Aiyuk has already spent plenty of time in the rumor mill this offseason, but the latest twist around the 49ers receiver has nothing to do with contract chatter or trade speculation. A social media video posted by Aiyuk drew immediate attention and concern, adding another uncomfortable layer to a situation that has already kept San Francisco fans on edge.

The fallout now goes beyond optics, with the incident carrying possible legal implications if anyone chooses to pursue it further. It also lands at a moment when Aiyuks future has been a talking point, including his reported interest in the Washington Commanders, though former NFL wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh has publicly brushed aside that possibility. [Read more 🡒]

49ers Suddenly Have A Surprise Roster Opening Fans Should Watch

The 49ers tight end room has a familiar name at the top in George Kittle, but the depth chart behind him is suddenly worth a closer look. With the group still looking thin, an undrafted rookie from Penn State has put himself into the conversation by leaning into the kind of work that can stick in San Francisco: blocking, toughness and enough versatility to keep coaches interested through camp.

Khalil Dinkins has the profile of a player who can carve out a role if the opportunity is there, and that matters because the 49ers may need another dependable body at the position. Analyst Matt Barrows pointed out that if Kittle is unavailable to start the season, the door could open wider for a third tight end, and Dinkins path would then come down to whether he can keep forcing the issue over the next few weeks. 49ers Learned A Tough Truth About Jauan Jennings At The Right Time

The 49ers got a clear look at Jauan Jennings market value before the offseason turned into a bigger decision than it first appeared. Jennings had gone into the 2026 offseason looking for top wide receiver money, but San Francisco moved on, and the split came after a year in which his production had already started to slip from the level he reached in 2024.

Jennings decline showed up both in the raw numbers and in the way he was being used, which made the evaluation more complicated for a team trying to balance its roster and cap. For the 49ers, the timing mattered: they were able to learn a hard lesson about where Jennings stood before committing to a contract that might have been driven more by reputation than by what he was giving them on the field.
