The Ravens’ quarterback situation took a brutal turn in Week 8, and that kind of damage can force a team to start making calls.
Lamar Jackson went down with a thumb injury in the loss to the Buffalo Bills, then landed on injured reserve after undergoing thumb surgery. Tyler Huntley got hurt later in the game and never made it back.
By the time the dust settled, undrafted rookie free agent Joe Fagnano was the only healthy quarterback left on the roster. Baltimore still finished the night with a 36-10 loss and dropped to 4-4.
That’s the kind of setup that can push a front office into the trade market, and NFL insider Jordan Schultz said “there’s a scenario they could be in the trade market for a QB this week.”
If Baltimore goes shopping, one name that stands out is 49ers backup Mac Jones.
Jones has been floating around trade chatter for much of the offseason, and the noise has only picked up as the Nov. 10 deadline gets closer. Some around the league have already connected him to quarterback-needy teams such as the Vikings and Eagles, but the Ravens now look like another possible landing spot.
San Francisco, though, has had little incentive to move him. The 49ers had chances to deal Jones in the offseason and passed because the offers didn’t justify giving up a dependable backup. Reports say they’d want at least a second-round pick in return.
That asking price makes sense considering what Jones gave them in 2025. He stepped in for Brock Purdy and went 5-3 as a starter, helping the 49ers reach the playoffs even while injuries piled up around the roster.
So while the 49ers haven’t been eager to move him, a strong offer from Baltimore could change the conversation. If the Ravens are serious about stabilizing the position, Jones is the name to watch.

Nick Bosas Return Took A Turn The 49ers Couldnt Ignore
Nick Bosas return has been on hold since he suffered a calf strain before Week 3, and the 49ers have been careful not to rush one of their most important defensive pieces back into action. San Franciscos approach has been to protect the long view, giving Bosa extra time to recover rather than risk turning a nagging issue into something bigger.
The timing matters because the 49ers are expecting him to be ready for Week 9, when his presence would give their defensive front a major boost alongside new acquisition DeForest Buckner. For a defense built to win with pressure up front, getting Bosa back healthy is the kind of development that can change the feel of the entire unit. [Read more 🡒]
49ers Face A Brutal Maxx Crosby Dilemma Before Week 9
The 49ers are keeping an eye on Maxx Crosby as the Raiders sort through a rough stretch and a possible reset, but this is not the kind of midseason swing San Francisco is expected to make lightly. Crosby has become one of the most intriguing names on the market as Las Vegas takes trade inquiries, and the timing adds another layer with the teams set to meet in Week 9.
For San Francisco, the appeal is obvious. A pass rusher of Crosbys caliber would fit any contender, especially one trying to stay at the top of the NFC picture. But the 49ers have already made major moves and do not have a pile of draft capital to burn, which makes the idea more of a conversation piece than a likely pursuit for now. Still, if the Raiders keep sliding, that Week 9 matchup could end up mattering well beyond the standings. [Read more 🡒]
49ers Receiver Need Led To A Reunion Attempt That Fell Apart
With injuries thinning the receiver room, the 49ers reportedly went looking for help and even checked on a familiar name in Jauan Jennings, who is now with the Vikings. It would have been a reunion with some history behind it, since Jennings previously spent time in San Francisco and has had a strained relationship with the organization.
The talks apparently got far enough that a deal was lined up, but the finish line never arrived. Jennings reportedly declined to take part in the FaceTime call with Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch that was part of the arrangement, leaving the 49ers still searching for answers at a position where they badly needed them.
