Brock Purdy Breaks Out the Dougie, Leaves George Kittle (and the Internet) in Stitches
It was already a strong day at the office for Brock Purdy. The 49ers quarterback threw a pair of touchdowns and added a two-yard rushing score in San Francisco’s 26-8 win over the Cleveland Browns. But it wasn’t just the stat sheet that had people talking-it was what Purdy did after he crossed the goal line that really stole the show.
After punching it in during the third quarter, Purdy celebrated by dusting off a dance move that hasn’t been in heavy rotation since the early 2010s: the Dougie. Yes, that Dougie. And judging by George Kittle’s reaction, nobody saw it coming.
Kittle’s response was instant internet gold-helmet slap, wide eyes, and a look that screamed, “Did my quarterback just do that?” It was the kind of genuine sideline moment fans live for, and it quickly made the rounds on social media. One clip of the celebration and Kittle’s reaction racked up views in a hurry, with fans chiming in on Purdy’s unexpected moves.
“George Kittle’s mind was blown when Brock Purdy did the Dougie,” one user posted, summing up what everyone was thinking.
Another fan added, “Ohhh… Mr. Purdy is getting Swaggy,” while others were shocked in the best way possible: “Didn’t think he had it in him,” and, “Like, dude you can DANCE?!”
Kittle himself addressed the moment after the game, and his reaction was just as entertaining as his sideline expression. “He was just really good at it,” Kittle said, still clearly amused.
“I was just more surprised. God forbid a white guy has a little bit of motion.”
The 49ers’ locker room has never lacked personality, and moments like these only reinforce the chemistry that’s helped them become one of the NFC’s top contenders. Between Purdy’s poise under center and his ability to keep things light, it’s no wonder this team keeps finding ways to win-and have fun doing it.
But while the celebration brought some levity, not everything during the game was playful.
Tensions flared in the third quarter when Browns defensive lineman Maliek Collins was carted off the field with an injury. As he was being helped off, 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings reportedly had some words for the injured player-words that didn’t sit well with Browns veteran Shelby Harris.
After the game, Harris didn’t hold back when speaking to reporters. “He’s a h** and I want that known,” Harris said, referencing Jennings.
He even pointed back to a previous altercation Jennings had last Monday, where he was punched by an opposing player. “I see why he got punched in the nuts, because he said some things that you should not say to another man, ever.”
It was a jarring contrast to the light-hearted moments earlier in the game, but it served as a reminder: NFL Sundays are emotional, physical, and often unpredictable. One minute you’re watching your quarterback hit the Dougie, the next you’re hearing postgame soundbites that could fuel a rivalry.
Still, the 49ers walked away with a convincing win, and Purdy continues to prove he’s more than just a game manager-he’s got command, confidence, and apparently, a little rhythm too.
As for Kittle? He might still be recovering from the shock.
