The San Francisco 49ers are set to take a look at Jack Plummer, the reigning UFL MVP, with a workout scheduled for Wednesday, according to KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson. Plummer also has a workout lined up with the Miami Dolphins next week, Wilson reported.
Plummer’s UFL season turned plenty of heads. As the starter for the Orlando Storm, he went 8-2 in 2026 and put up 2,189 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and just one interception. He completed 65% of his throws and posted a 104.2 rating, while also adding 189 rushing yards and two more scores.
The 26-year-old has been around the college game for a while, with stops at Purdue, California and Louisville. His best season came in 2023 at Louisville, when he threw for 3,204 yards and 21 touchdowns. Over 47 college games, he finished with 9,728 passing yards, 68 touchdowns and 31 interceptions, completing 64.1 percent of his passes.
Plummer entered the pro ranks as an undrafted player in 2024 and spent time with the Carolina Panthers, moving between the practice squad and the active roster before being waived ahead of the 2025 season. He is not related to former NFL quarterback Jake Plummer, who played 10 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos.
If San Francisco brings Plummer to training camp, he’d be entering a crowded quarterback room behind Brock Purdy. The group currently includes Mac Jones, Adrian Martinez and Kurtis Rourke, with Jones expected to hold the QB2 job. That would leave Plummer battling Martinez and Rourke for the QB3 spot.
There is one wrinkle: if Jones is traded before the season, Plummer could have a cleaner route to making the roster behind Purdy and one of the other quarterbacks.

Training camp has a way of turning depth-chart guesses into real competition, and the 49ers have a handful of young players who could make that happen before the pads even come on.
