49ers Pass Rush Problem Is Fueling Serious Trade Deadline Buzz

As the trade deadline approaches, the 49ers are poised for a major defensive move to bolster their pass rush capabilities according to NFL insiders.

The San Francisco 49ers are being talked about like a team that’s ready to do something before the trade deadline.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz said on a podcast that he expects an active market and singled out the 49ers as one of the teams worth watching closely. He went so far as to say he’d be “shocked” if San Francisco doesn’t make a move.

“I think we’re headed for a very active deadline,” Schultz said. “I think we can see anywhere from 12 to 20 trades-and two teams I’m watching very closely: The 49ers and the Bears.

I’ve heard both teams connected to several defensive players, including rushers Josh Sweat, Khalil Mack, and DeForest Buckner, along with some names who aren’t necessarily on the trade block. I think both Chicago and San Francisco wanna be aggressive.

I’d be shocked if they don’t make a move before the deadline.”

That tracks with the kind of addition the 49ers seem to need. They’re sitting 24th in the NFL in pressure rate, and the Falcons offered a reminder of how disruptive four-man pressure can be against Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Getting after the quarterback without blitzing is still the cleanest way to bother this group.

Schultz also mentioned the Bears as another team that could push to add help, and both clubs have high-powered offenses with Caleb Williams under center in Chicago.

As for the names linked to San Francisco, Josh Sweat would be tough to pry away from Arizona, given the division angle. There’s little reason to believe the Cardinals would help a rival by moving him.

Mack, meanwhile, has the kind of résumé that makes him an obvious deadline name. He’s in the final year of his contract, and the 35-year-old has three sacks, six tackles for loss and 14 pressures this season. In Week 4 against the Seahawks, he put together a strong showing with two tackles for loss, three pressures and a sack.

After that game, it wouldn’t have been surprising if John Lynch started making calls.

49ers First Loss Made One Thing About This Roster Impossible To Ignore

The first loss of the 2026 season did not come with much room for comfort, even if the 49ers still sit in control of the NFC West at 6-1 heading into Week 9. San Franciscos undefeated start and six-game road winning streak both ended in Atlanta, and the defeat came with the sort of issues that tend to travel with a team until they get cleaned up: shaky ball security, a pass rush that could not create enough disruption, and a game plan that had to survive through several key injuries.

Christian McCaffrey was part of the injury storyline, briefly leaving with a thigh scare before returning, which only added to the feeling that this was one of those Sundays where everything got tested at once. The bye week now arrives at a useful time for the 49ers, giving them a chance to reset physically and sort through a loss that exposed just how thin the margin can be when the core pieces are not fully at ease. 49ers May Be Running Out Of Time With Eddy Pineiro

Eddy Pineiros season has become a problem the 49ers can no longer keep brushing aside. During the game against the Falcons, the veteran kicker missed his seventh kick of the year, another jolt to a phase of the game that San Francisco expected to be stable when it brought him in.

The 49ers have enough moving parts elsewhere without having to wonder about every field goal and extra point, and the possibility of a change is starting to feel more realistic by the week. If they do decide to move on, the free-agent market offers a few familiar names to monitor, with Graham Gano, Matt Prater and Riley Patterson among the kickers who could come into the conversation. 49ers Halloween Party Turns Viral Scandal Into A Locker Room Debate

A recent Halloween gathering around the 49ers turned into more than a costume party when the teams festivities brushed up against one of the years stranger viral stories. Daejon Love, whose arrest and federal case made headlines after authorities said he ran fake investment schemes that targeted more than two dozen women, has become a familiar name far beyond the financial-crime beat, and the topic was apparently impossible to avoid once the 49ers started putting together their looks.

At least two San Francisco players leaned into the reference, with one showing up in a jersey and another in a jail outfit, turning a serious off-field case into the kind of locker-room debate that can follow a team long after the music stops. It was a reminder that viral stories have a way of bleeding into NFL culture quickly, especially when the subject already comes with enough controversy to make a Halloween costume feel like commentary.
