Jed York’s arrest in a late-August 2026 prostitution sting in East Palestine, Ohio, has now spilled beyond the police report and into the family response - with his father offering just three words when asked about it.
York, the principal owner and former CEO of the San Francisco 49ers, was taken into custody after authorities say he repeatedly responded to a fake online ad posted by an undercover officer with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force. Using the alias “Joe,” he allegedly agreed to pay $140 to $160 for a sexual encounter at a designated mobile home park. When he showed up at the phony address on Sunday, officers moved in, stopped his rental SUV and arrested him.
He was booked into the county jail and charged with suspicion of solicitation of prostitution and possession of criminal tools. Police identified the cellphone used to set up the meeting as the criminal tools charge.
Authorities also said an undercover ad in Columbiana County led to the arrest, with the meeting arranged at Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine. One hundred sixty dollars in cash was seized from a rental car.
The fallout has already reached the 49ers. Kyle Shanahan called the matter personal and “irrelevant to our guys.” And according to the source report, divorce papers from May were already on file between York and his wife.
When reporters tracked down York’s parents, the answers were brief. John York was reached at DeBartolo Corporation offices in Youngstown and said, “That’s been resolved,” to the Daily Mail.
Denise DeBartolo York declined to comment during the same visit. The family home’s windows were reported to be shut in the aftermath.
In East Palestine, the arrest became part gossip, part punchline, part side-eye. At Southern Park Mall, 72-year-old Diane, sipping tea with friends, joked, “What is it with East Palestine?”
She added, “First we had the train wreck, and now this.” Asked about York, she said, “He’s male - what else do you need to know?”
She later tempered the jokes with praise for the family, saying, “I will say for that family - they’ve done a lot of good. Everything you see here.”
