The San Francisco 49ers may be looking at wide receiver again early in the 2027 NFL Draft, if CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson has it right.
In Wilson’s latest mock, San Francisco lands Indiana junior Nick Marsh with the No. 31 overall pick. Marsh checks a lot of boxes for a 49ers receiver: size, strength, a knack for winning contested catches and the willingness to do the dirty work as a blocker. Wilson even compared him to the player he replaced, Elijah Sarratt.
At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, Marsh is putting together the best season of his college career. Through nine games, he has 38 receptions for 669 yards and eight touchdowns, good for 74.3 receiving yards per game. His production has climbed steadily over the last few seasons, starting with 41 catches for 649 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman at Michigan State in 2024, followed by 59 grabs for 662 yards and six scores in 2025 before he transferred to Indiana for the 2026 season.
For San Francisco, the idea of taking another pass catcher this early comes with some baggage. The team has already spent premium draft capital at the position in recent years, selecting Ricky Pearsall at No. 31 in 2024 and Ole Miss’ De’Zhaun Stribling at No. 33 in the second round this year. Neither situation has gone smoothly so far: Pearsall is out for the year with a knee injury and has seen limited action in the NFL, while Stribling is expected to remain sidelined until December after ankle surgery following Week 1.
The 49ers have also added Jordan Watkins in the fourth round in 2025 and Jacob Cowing in the fourth round in 2024.
Another receiver would be a luxury, sure, but the injury picture at the position makes it hard to dismiss. San Francisco has not had much luck staying healthy there, and the team may have to keep turning over every stone. By 2027, Mike Evans will be another year older, and the 49ers can’t count on Pearsall, Stribling, Watkins, Cowing and Demarcus Robinson to carry the load.

DeForest Buckners Return Gives 49ers A Pass-Rush Jolt
DeForest Buckner is back where his NFL career began, and the timing could not be much better for a 49ers defense looking for a lift after the bye. San Francisco brought him back in a trade, adding a familiar face to a pass rush that can always use another proven interior presence. Buckner has four sacks this season, and his return gives the 49ers another disruptive option as they head into the second half.
For Buckner, the move was about more than just a reunion. He said he wanted to come back to San Francisco because of his familiarity with the organization and his focus on getting better week to week, a mindset that should fit right back into the 49ers' locker room. Now the question is how quickly he can settle in and make an impact again, with the team hoping his presence helps sharpen a defense that already knows exactly what he brings. [Read more 🡒]
49ers Suddenly Hold A Trade Chip Baltimore Might Desperately Need
The quarterback picture in Baltimore has gone from shaky to urgent, and it has suddenly put a familiar name on the radar in San Francisco. With Lamar Jackson dealing with a thumb injury that requires surgery and likely sends him to injured reserve, and Tyler Huntley also banged up, the Ravens are staring at a thin depth chart at the worst possible time as they try to keep their season from veering off course.
That is why the 49ers have become part of the conversation, with Mac Jones emerging as a possible answer if Baltimore decides it needs a veteran bridge option. Jones has handled himself well in a starting role, which only adds to his appeal, but San Francisco has been reluctant to move him and would not be expected to make it easy for a desperate team to pry him loose. 49ers Deadline Buzz Centers On Two Roster Needs They Still Havent Fixed
With the NFL trade deadline approaching, the 49ers keep showing up in the leaguewide conversation as a team worth watching. Insider Jordan Schultz said San Francisco and the Bears could still be active, and the names floating around the market only add to the sense that the final hours could get interesting for a club trying to sharpen its roster for the stretch run.
The 49ers interest appears to be centered on two obvious areas, even as the market keeps shifting around them. Khalil Mack remains part of the chatter, and George Pickens is another player drawing attention, which fits the kind of upgrade San Francisco has been linked to as it weighs whether to make another move before the deadline passes.
