Jauan Jennings arrives in Minnesota with a fresh start, but the Vikings may be inheriting the same problem the 49ers already figured out.
The veteran receiver entered the 2026 offseason chasing WR1 money from San Francisco, only to be turned down by general manager John Lynch. That decision sent Jennings into free agency, where he eventually landed with the Vikings. Kevin O'Connell’s team is hoping Jennings, along with quarterback Kyler Murray, can help push the offense to another level and finally get the franchise closer to the Super Bowl goal that has remained out of reach.
But the warning sign is right there in Jennings’ most recent work.
In 2024, the former seventh-round pick looked like he was climbing into real top-option territory. He finished with 975 receiving yards and six touchdowns, stepping into a major role in an injury-hit 49ers passing attack. That breakout season set up his case for a big payday.
Instead, 2025 brought a sharp drop. Jennings managed 643 receiving yards on 55 catches, and while he did add a few more touchdowns, the overall production fell off.
The chances were there, too, with George Kittle and Ricky Pearsall missing significant time. Jennings just couldn’t keep the momentum going from the year before.
His yards per route run slid from 2.26 in 2024 to 1.35 in 2025.
The decline carried into the playoffs as well, where he caught only three passes across two games.
Minnesota does not need Jennings to be its No. 1 target. That job belongs to Justin Jefferson, one of the best wide receivers in football. Jordan Addison is also in place as a secondary option, provided he rebounds from a relatively quiet season.
Still, the Vikings are clearly acting like a team trying to win soon, and Jennings is supposed to be part of that push. Minnesota will need him to be reliable from the slot, especially when the games get tighter in the postseason.
If the version of Jennings that showed up in his final year with San Francisco is the one the Vikings get, disappointment is coming fast. For the 49ers, moving on when they did may have been the right call.

49ers May Finally Have The Defensive Answer Fans Have Been Waiting For
As the 49ers head toward the start of the 2026 season, the conversation around the roster is still being shaped by the Brandon Aiyuk contract dispute on one side and the need for more stability on the other. On defense, the focus is turning to Alfred Collins, the 2025 draft pick who is expected to become a much bigger part of the line as San Francisco looks for growth from its young players and a cleaner bill of health after an injury-hit 2025.
Collins is the kind of interior presence the 49ers have been waiting to see blossom, especially with veteran Osa Odighizuwa alongside him to help anchor the front. If Collins takes the next step, it could give San Francisco a far more disruptive defensive identity and make life harder for opposing offenses from the jump, which is exactly the sort of answer this team has been searching for as camp and the regular season draw closer. Robert Saleh Just Said Something 49ers Fans Will Not Ignore
Robert Salehs name still carries weight around the 49ers, and his latest comments only keep that conversation alive. After leaving San Francisco to take over the Titans, Saleh recently looked back on his second stint with the club and pointed to the kind of resiliency and leadership that have long made the building stand out, a reminder of why his time there left such a strong impression.
For 49ers fans, the interesting part is not just the praise, but what it could mean down the road. If Saleh ever finds himself back on the market, San Francisco would make sense as a possible landing spot again, especially if a defensive coordinator opening comes up and the organization is looking for a familiar voice who already knows the room. 49ers Fans Hit With Another Disturbing Brandon Aiyuk Twist
Brandon Aiyuk has already spent plenty of this offseason in the rumor mill, but a troubling social media post has now pushed the 49ers wideout into a different kind of spotlight. The video has stirred backlash around the league and among San Francisco fans, adding another layer of unease to a situation that was already being watched closely because of his uncertain future.
The controversy also comes as the speculation around a possible move to Washington continues to linger, even if not everyone is buying it. Former NFL receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has publicly brushed aside the idea of Aiyuk landing with the Commanders, leaving the bigger questions around the receivers next step and what comes next for the 49ers still unresolved.
