After the game, Sean McVay pushed back on the idea that the schedule was to blame.
“I know there’s gonna be a lot of narratives that appropriately put the blame on me, and then we’ll move forward the right way,” he said. “I don’t believe (the travel plan) is why we didn’t play well enough. I really don’t.”
The Rams’ route was designed to keep the team as close as possible to its usual rhythm. The 49ers chose the longer stay to fully adjust to the time difference.
For one side, that decision ended with a 1-0 record. For the other, it ended with a rough night and a lot of criticism on the way out.
