The Aaron Donald speculation around the 49ers is still hanging out there, but Adam Schefter’s latest update makes the whole thing sound more like a test run than a real decision point.
Schefter said Donald told the team he wanted to go there, work out, and see how he felt once he was back in pads and back on a football field. The point, according to Schefter, was to check everything: how his body responded, how his mind responded, and what it felt like to be in that setting again.
“He told the team that he wanted to go there, work out, see how he felt, see how he reacted, see everything that went along with being back in pads, on the football field, and seeing how it made him feel,” Schefter said.
He added, ”Now, I don’t know what he told them about that after he went through those workouts at the facility, but I really think it was just a trial method to see how his whole body reacted, how his mind reacted to being back out there.”
Elsewhere on the 49ers front, Wesley Grimes is being framed as the kind of receiver who fits the team’s mold, even if the upside may be more about roster value than star power. The case for him is built on the traits San Francisco tends to like: a receiver who can work underneath and still threaten after the catch.
Grimes posted an average depth of target of 12.9 yards at North Carolina State and averaged just over five yards after the catch. He also had a 20-yard reception in six different games, with a lot of his production coming on in-breaking routes. He was efficient when targeted beyond 20 yards, too.
The piece also points to Grimes being only 22, which gives the 49ers room to develop him further. His after-the-catch aggression could be useful in blocking as well. He may not project as a WR1, but the argument is that the tools are there - the kind the 49ers have been missing at the position in recent seasons.
And in a separate note, Taylor shared a reflective message on Instagram about the game itself and what it meant to him.
“Football gave me everything,” Taylor wrote on Instagram. “All of my lifelong friendships.
All of the adversity and life lessons It taught me along the way. Nothing else in this world breaks you down and teaches you who you are like the game of football does.
The dog days and the relationships built within it are what’s going to be missed the most.”

49ers May Finally Have The Defensive Answer Fans Have Been Waiting For
As the 49ers head toward the start of the 2026 season, the conversation around the roster is still being shaped by the Brandon Aiyuk contract dispute on one side and the need for more stability on the other. On defense, the focus is turning to Alfred Collins, the 2025 draft pick who is expected to become a much bigger part of the line as San Francisco looks for growth from its young players and a cleaner bill of health after an injury-hit 2025.
Collins is the kind of interior presence the 49ers have been waiting to see blossom, especially with veteran Osa Odighizuwa alongside him to help anchor the front. If Collins takes the next step, it could give San Francisco a far more disruptive defensive identity and make life harder for opposing offenses from the jump, which is exactly the sort of answer this team has been searching for as camp and the regular season draw closer. Robert Saleh Just Said Something 49ers Fans Will Not Ignore
Robert Salehs name still carries weight around the 49ers, and his latest comments only keep that conversation alive. After leaving San Francisco to take over the Titans, Saleh recently looked back on his second stint with the club and pointed to the kind of resiliency and leadership that have long made the building stand out, a reminder of why his time there left such a strong impression.
For 49ers fans, the interesting part is not just the praise, but what it could mean down the road. If Saleh ever finds himself back on the market, San Francisco would make sense as a possible landing spot again, especially if a defensive coordinator opening comes up and the organization is looking for a familiar voice who already knows the room. 49ers Fans Hit With Another Disturbing Brandon Aiyuk Twist
Brandon Aiyuk has already spent plenty of this offseason in the rumor mill, but a troubling social media post has now pushed the 49ers wideout into a different kind of spotlight. The video has stirred backlash around the league and among San Francisco fans, adding another layer of unease to a situation that was already being watched closely because of his uncertain future.
The controversy also comes as the speculation around a possible move to Washington continues to linger, even if not everyone is buying it. Former NFL receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has publicly brushed aside the idea of Aiyuk landing with the Commanders, leaving the bigger questions around the receivers next step and what comes next for the 49ers still unresolved.
