49ers Face A Mac Jones Decision Fans Cant Ignore

Though in demand, Mac Jones key role as backup leaves him likely to stay with the 49ers past the trade deadline, according to expert analysis.

The 49ers may hear plenty of interest in Mac Jones before the NFL trade deadline, but the idea of San Francisco actually moving him doesn’t sound especially likely.

ESPN analyst Dan Graziano doesn’t expect the former first-round pick to be dealt, and the reason is pretty straightforward: the 49ers think highly of him. Jones is entering his second season with the team, and San Francisco sees him as more than just a backup behind Brock Purdy.

“The 49ers value Jones very highly. They know they can win with him if something should happen to starter Brock Purdy,” Graziano wrote.

That’s not an empty compliment. Jones gave the 49ers real proof of concept last season when he was pressed into duty. He made eight starts, helped the team go 5-3 in those games, and threw 13 touchdown passes.

That stretch helps explain why San Francisco is treating him like a meaningful piece of the roster instead of a movable spare part. The 49ers brought him in to give themselves a dependable option if Purdy missed time, and Jones showed he could keep the offense moving.

Graziano said the 49ers already fielded multiple inquiries about Jones during the offseason, and that more teams are expected to come calling as the deadline gets closer. Still, San Francisco is said to have a specific asking price, and Graziano doesn’t think another team will step up with the kind of offer that clears it.

“The 49ers consider Jones an important part of their roster and believe they’re better with him than without him,” Graziano wrote.

So unless a desperate team gets involved and pushes the price up, the most likely outcome is that Jones stays put. For now, the 49ers appear content to keep their insurance policy in the Bay Area.

49ers Week 4 Outlook Suddenly Hinges On One Late Decision

A late rib injury has turned Mike Evans into one of the biggest pregame variables on the 49ers Week 4 radar, with the veteran wide receiver now listed as questionable for Sundays matchup against the Denver Broncos. Evans was hurt in Week 3 and is being treated as a game-time decision, leaving San Francisco to wait until roughly 90 minutes before kickoff for the official word.

Evans has made it clear he wants to suit up, and his history of playing through similar injuries only adds to the uncertainty around how much the 49ers can count on him. For a team trying to keep its offense on schedule against a Broncos defense that can make every possession matter, his availability could shape the way San Francisco approaches the game from the opening drive on. 49ers Linked To A Draft Back For Life After Christian McCaffrey

Jahiem Whites 2026 season at North Texas has put him on the radar as a potential mid-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, and the skill set is easy to see for a team like the 49ers. He has flashed the kind of elusiveness, vision and burst that tend to play well in San Franciscos offense, especially for a back who can create with the ball in his hands and keep defenses honest on the perimeter.

For the 49ers, the appeal is less about asking White to carry a heavy weekly load and more about the idea of a change-of-pace runner who fits alongside bigger personnel decisions at the position. His profile suggests a player who can complement a more physical inside option, which makes him the kind of draft name worth tracking as the process moves forward. [Read more 🡒]

49ers Head Into Week 4 With One New Wrinkle And A Concern

Kyle Shanahan spent part of the week explaining a curious hook-and-lateral call from the win over the Arizona Cardinals, framing it as a low-risk idea in a tough spot rather than some grand gamble. For the 49ers, it was another reminder that even the little choices in a division game can draw attention when the margins are tight and every possession matters.

Now the focus shifts to Week 4, where San Francisco is set to get a new look on the edge with Matthew Judon headed for his 49ers debut after being elevated from the practice squad. The roster move adds some intrigue to a defense that is already dealing with a separate concern, since Fred Warner was fined twice for unnecessary roughness in the Arizona game and will be watching that part of his game closely moving forward.
