49ers Eyeing Reunion With Eric Kendricks for Dynamic Defense Duo

49ers GM John Lynch hints at a dynamic defensive duo possibility with a potential Kendricks return.

Imagine Fred Warner and Eric Kendricks patrolling the field together for the 49ers. It’s a tantalizing prospect that might be closer to reality than you think.

49ers GM John Lynch recently expressed his enthusiasm on the 49ers Talk podcast, highlighting the potential of bringing Kendricks back into the fold.

“Sure, I’d love to see it,” Lynch remarked with a chuckle, revealing just how much he values Kendricks’ contributions.

As Kendricks approaches free agency with the new league year kicking off on March 11, he remains an under-the-radar yet intriguing option. He joined the 49ers in late November and quickly made an impact, debuting in Week 16.

Lynch was clear about his intentions: “Yeah, absolutely. Eric, I can’t say enough.

He came in, and while it might have taken longer than he wanted, he quickly found his stride. He was instrumental in our tough playoff win in Philly and played consistently well.”

This isn’t the first time the 49ers have pursued Kendricks. In 2024, he opted to sign with the Cowboys to stay in his preferred MIKE linebacker role-Warner’s turf.

The big question is whether new defensive coordinator Raheem Morris can devise a scheme that accommodates both Warner and Kendricks. Lynch, however, is all about maximizing talent on the field.

Kendricks’ stock is high with Lynch, especially after his standout performances in five games, including two pivotal playoff matchups.

“Eric’s always been a thorn in our side, a really good football player,” Lynch noted. “His track record speaks volumes, and he’s proven his worth time and again.”

The potential pairing of Warner and Kendricks could be a game-changer for San Francisco, and fans should keep a keen eye on how this develops.
