The 49ers left Sunday’s win over the Broncos with more than just a victory. They also came out of a bruising game with a handful of injury questions, though Kyle Shanahan had some encouraging news after the final whistle.
The biggest concern centered on fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who went down after taking a helmet to the knee and appeared to hyperextend it. He needed help from trainers to get off the field, and the scene looked bad in the moment.
But Shanahan said the early read is that it may be a knee sprain and that initial tests indicate Juszczyk’s ACL is intact. A final answer will have to wait until after an MRI.
That matters for San Francisco because Juszczyk is such a key piece of the offense, both as a blocker and as a receiver. He actually hauled in a pass for a first down on the same play that ended with the injury.
Shanahan also confirmed two other exits from the game. Safety Marques Sigle left with an ankle injury, then returned before leaving again late.
The good sign there was that he walked off on his own and did not need a cart. Cornerback Upton Stout was also banged up, and Shanahan said the early expectation is an AC joint injury.
There was another brief scare when Fred Warner came out of the game, but he returned, and Shanahan said it was a stomach issue.
The injury list comes on top of a hard-fought game in which both defenses controlled much of the action through the first three quarters. Denver losing both starting cornerbacks helped open things up for the 49ers late, allowing them to finally string together some scoring drives.
Now San Francisco turns to Seattle next week, and while the 49ers don’t have full clarity yet, Shanahan’s update at least left open the possibility that the players who exited against Denver may be available. At this point, none of the injuries sounded season-ending.

49ers Win Still Left Kyle Shanahan With An Uncomfortable Debate
Kyle Shanahans name now sits alone atop a franchise list that once belonged to Bill Walsh, a milestone that would normally define a victory lap for any 49ers coach. Instead, it came in a 24-14 win over the Broncos that felt more like a reminder of how San Francisco is being carried right now, with the defense doing the heavy lifting while Brock Purdy and the offense worked through a flatter afternoon than the team has been used to.
The 49ers still moved the ball well enough to finish with 358 yards and they stayed efficient enough on third down, going 6 of 13 without turning it over. But for a coach who just passed a legend and for an offense that had already set a higher bar earlier in the season, the bigger question coming out of the game was not the record book moment. It was how much Shanahan trusts this version of the offense to find its rhythm again before the schedule starts demanding it. [Read more 🡒]
Dre Greenlaw Had A Personal Message For Sean Payton Sunday
Dre Greenlaw had a little extra edge Sunday in the 49ers matchup with Denver, and it showed in a moment that quickly made the rounds. The linebacker, now back in San Francisco on a one-year contract, was caught on camera telling Broncos coach Sean Payton that Denver made a mistake letting him go after injuries cut short his run there.
For the 49ers, it was another reminder that Greenlaw is not just back, he matters to their defense in a big way. After spending the previous season with the Broncos, he has reestablished himself as an important piece in San Francisco, and the message he delivered Sunday carried the kind of personal sting that tends to follow a player who felt he had something to prove. 49ers Stay Unbeaten But Head To Seattle With New Concerns
The 49ers kept their perfect start intact Sunday with a 24-14 win over the Broncos at Levis Stadium, and Brock Purdy helped steady the offense with a sharp finish. He completed nine of his last 10 passes, including a 56-yard touchdown to George Kittle, while the line once again kept him clean and extended the clubs run to four straight games without allowing a sack.
Still, the win came with a cost. Several players went down with injuries during the game, adding a layer of concern to an otherwise encouraging start as San Francisco heads on the road to face the Seattle Seahawks next. The 49ers have the record they wanted through four games, but now they have to see whether they can keep that momentum going with more than a little uncertainty around them. [Read more 🡒]
