Wembanyama Shines as Spurs Extend Pacers' Losing Streak to Record Levels

Wembanyama shines in a dominant Spurs victory, extending the Pacers' record-breaking losing streak.

In a commanding display, the San Antonio Spurs took down the Indiana Pacers with a 134-119 victory, never relinquishing their lead throughout the game. Keldon Johnson and Dylan Harper both shone brightly, each racking up 24 points. Harper, in particular, made waves with his impressive performance, going 9 for 13 from the field in his debut NBA start.

Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs' All-Star, delivered a well-rounded performance with 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five blocks. Despite recent concerns over a sore right ankle, Wembanyama appeared unfazed, contributing actively in his 26 minutes on the court.

On the other side, the Pacers saw Andrew Nembhard leading the charge with 25 points, while Jarace Walker added 21. Unfortunately for Indiana, this loss extends their franchise-record losing streak to 16 games, leaving them at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with a 15-56 record. It's a tough spot for the Pacers, who were just in the NBA Finals last season.

The Spurs, meanwhile, are on a hot streak, winning 21 of their last 23 games and improving their record to 53-18. This marks their most successful season since their 61-21 finish in 2017.

Injuries have been a challenge for both teams. The Pacers had several players listed as questionable, though most took to the court.

The exception was Ethan Thompson, currently on a G League assignment. For the Spurs, Devin Vassell was a late scratch due to hamstring tightness, but the team adapted well.

A highlight moment came when Nembhard, unable to shake Wembanyama under the rim, passed out to Pascal Siakam. Siakam’s attempt was also thwarted by Wembanyama’s defensive prowess, leading to a swift transition play that ended with Carter Bryant converting an alley-oop from Wembanyama.

The Spurs showcased their offensive efficiency, shooting 55% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc, underscoring their formidable form as they continue their push in the season.
