San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama is making a strong case for MVP this season, and he's not shy about it. In a candid interview with ESPN, the 22-year-old laid out his reasons with a refreshing honesty that’s as impressive as his on-court performances.
Wembanyama, unlike many players who might downplay their ambitions, openly embraces the chase for the league's top individual honor. “I care deeply about it,” he said.
“All the greats in the Hall of Fame fought for everything they could grab early in their careers. If I want to be among them, I can’t miss any chance to put my name up there.”
His performance backs up his words. Wembanyama dropped 41 points for the second consecutive game in the Spurs' 127-113 victory over the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center. Along with those points, he snagged 18 rebounds, dished out three assists, and swatted away three blocks.
This marks his fourth 40-point game of the season, a feat not seen in San Antonio since David Robinson's MVP season in 1994-1995 when he had six such games. With the Spurs securing homecourt advantage in their playoff return after a six-year hiatus, they’ve improved to 58-18 and are riding a 10-game winning streak.
