Stephen Jackson just floated the kind of trade idea that stops people in their tracks: Stephen Curry to the Spurs.
The former Warriors guard, now part of All the Smoke, said this week that San Antonio would be the place he’d want to see Curry land if the four-time champion ever changed teams. Jackson pointed to the Spurs’ stockpile of assets and framed them as a team with enough to make a serious swing.
“San Antonio for me,” Jackson said this week when speaking on a possible Curry change of scenery.
He didn’t stop there. Jackson laid out the basic outline of how a deal could come together, mentioning De’Aaron Fox and the Spurs’ draft capital while making clear he wasn’t talking about Dylan Harper or Stephon Castle.
“You got De’Aaron Fox, they can package one of those, and I ain't even talking about (Dylan) Harper, or (Stephon) Castle, they got two big draft picks this year, so they did well in the draft.
“So they got the pieces to move for a Steph with De’Aaron Fox; I think that would be great.”
It’s the kind of proposal that would instantly reshape the conversation around San Antonio, especially with Victor Wembanyama in the picture and the Spurs trying to get back to the NBA Finals after last season’s loss to the New York Knicks.
For Golden State, though, this is where the idea runs into a wall. The Warriors have made efforts to extend Curry’s championship window, but the failed pursuit of names like Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis has only fueled speculation about what a Curry move might look like.
Fox is the obvious sticking point. He averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists with the Spurs last season, and while some in San Antonio see him as a movable piece after his Finals struggles, it’s a different question entirely in the Bay. Would Golden State view Fox as a foundation piece in a rebuild?
A Curry-for-Fox swap would be a massive Western Conference headline. For now, though, it remains exactly what it is: a bold idea, and one that would likely require Curry himself to ask out of Golden State before anything real could happen.
