Reflecting on his time in Sacramento, Fox was a key player during the Kings' most successful run in two decades. The 2022-2023 season saw them clinch a division title with 48 wins, followed by a 46-win season. It was a high point for the franchise, reminiscent of their 50-win campaign back in 2004-05.
Returning to Sacramento, Fox expressed a sense of nostalgia. “It’s nice to see familiar faces, but once the game starts, it’s business as usual,” he remarked.
The landscape in Sacramento has shifted since Fox's departure. With Domantas Sabonis sidelined due to meniscus surgery and Russell Westbrook stepping into a key role, the Kings are navigating a challenging season. Currently, they hold the Western Conference's worst record at 18-52, following a tough loss to the Spurs.
Fox, reflecting on his journey, understands the rebuilding phase the Kings are in. “The young guys are showing promise, and that’s important,” he noted, drawing parallels to the Spurs' own recent past. Just two years ago, San Antonio was in a similar rebuilding phase, finishing 22-60 with rookie Victor Wembanyama.
Fox's first season with the Spurs was cut short due to injuries for both him and Wembanyama. Despite these setbacks, the team made notable progress, improving their win total by 12 games.
This season, Fox is making his presence felt, averaging 19 points per game and earning another All-Star nod. His dynamic play alongside Wembanyama is a driving force behind the Spurs' resurgence, showcasing his continued impact and leadership in the league.
