Sabonis Is Giving The Kings Hope In A Brutal Early Spot

Domantas Sabonis is proving to be a crucial player for the Kings, maintaining his remarkable double-double streak while leading the team in rebounds and assists.

Domantas Sabonis keeps stacking numbers, and the Sacramento Kings keep needing every bit of it.

Through the first four games, the Kings’ center has been everything they want on the offensive end: efficient, physical and all over the glass. That showed up again Tuesday night in Sacramento’s 130-103 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, when Sabonis went after Victor Wembanyama and still came away with another huge line.

Sabonis scored 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting in the first half alone against the 7-foot-6 Frenchman, looking comfortable against the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. He carved out space with strength, worked through pump fakes and footwork moves, and kept finding finishes around the rim despite Wembanyama’s length and shot-blocking presence.

He also did what he has done from the jump this season: rebound everything in sight. Sabonis added 14 boards for his fourth straight double-double to open the year, tops in the NBA. He is now averaging 16.5 rebounds per game, the league’s best mark, and he set a post-merger NBA record with 52 rebounds through a player’s first three games of a season.

For Sacramento, the bigger picture is clear. The team is 0-3, and the defense remains the problem, with opponents scoring 125.5 points per game. But Sabonis has been a bright spot while the Kings try to find their first win, especially with his return to All-Star form after missing most of last season because of a meniscus tear in his left knee.

His efficiency has been just as eye-catching. After opening the season a perfect 5-for-5, he has kept attacking without losing his touch. Through four games, his 72.1% shooting from the field ranks fourth in the NBA.

He has also hit his lone 3-point attempt, which matters for a player who struggled from deep last season. If that shot holds, it only makes Sabonis more dangerous as a playmaker and opens more room for Sacramento’s drivers.

Against San Antonio, he added eight assists, keeping him in the NBA’s top 10 in that category as well. Night after night, Sabonis remains the hub of the Kings’ offense.

Doug Christie Pressure Is Rising Faster Than Kings Fans Expected

Doug Christie was handed the Kings job after Mike Browns departure, and the transition was supposed to offer some stability for a franchise that has spent years searching for it. Instead, the early returns have only deepened the unease around the team, with results that have gone from disappointing to alarming as injuries and poor play have piled up under his watch.

A 22-60 finish in the 2025-2026 season already put Sacramento in a difficult spot, and the opening stretch of 2026-2027 has only added to the pressure with an 0-4 start. For a team that was hoping to see real progress and development, the bigger concern now is that the Kings still do not look any closer to turning the corner. [Read more 🡒]

Kings Fans Can't Ignore What LaVine's Latest Visit Could Mean

Zach LaVine's latest stop to see DeMar DeRozan during the Nuggets win over the Pelicans was a reminder of how much history these two share. Their friendship stretches back through their time together with the Bulls and later with the Kings, and even now, with DeRozan having moved on to Denver, the connection remains obvious whenever they cross paths around the league.

For Sacramento, the reunion also lands at a time when LaVines future is anything but settled. His player option gives him real leverage in how this all plays out, and the Kings have to think carefully about what it means for roster flexibility if they want to keep building around him. A casual visit between old teammates can still carry a little extra weight when one of them may be shaping the teams next move. [Read more 🡒]

Former Kings Lottery Pick Just Reached A Tough Career Crossroads

Killian Hayes path has taken another sharp turn, with the former Kings guard now looking abroad for his next chance after finding the NBA market thin. Sacramento declined his second-year contract option, leaving him a free agent, and after limited interest from NBA teams, he has signed with Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Super League.

For a player once taken No. 7 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft by Detroit, it is a stark reminder of how quickly the league can narrow a careers margins. Hayes spent parts of one season with Sacramento, but his latest move underscores how a once-promising lottery career has reached a difficult crossroads, with his immediate future now tied to proving himself in a new setting.
