Precious Achiuwa was the star of the night, guiding the Sacramento Kings to a thrilling 130-121 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Achiuwa's career-high 29 points were instrumental in securing the Kings' fifth road win of the season and their first since early December.
The Mavericks made a valiant comeback attempt, narrowing an 18-point gap to just two in the final minutes. However, the Kings held their nerve, with key contributions from Nique Clifford, Daeqwon Plowden, and Achiuwa sealing the deal.
Maxime Raynaud also shone for the Kings, adding 22 points and six rebounds. Plowden, typically a G League standout, matched his career high with 19 points, making every shot he took, including three from beyond the arc. Devin Carter chipped in with a well-rounded performance, contributing 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
On the Mavericks' side, Naji Marshall put up an impressive 36 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Despite the absence of rookie sensation Cooper Flagg, Dallas saw Khris Middleton and Brandon Williams step up with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
The game started with the Kings firing on all cylinders, shooting a remarkable 56.7% in the first quarter and avoiding any turnovers. Achiuwa was dominant early, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds. By halftime, the Kings led 68-56, with Achiuwa already setting a new career high for points in a half.
Dallas made a push in the third quarter, slicing the deficit to three with an 11-0 run. But Sacramento answered with a 14-2 run, extending their lead. The Mavericks fought back to within two points late in the fourth, but decisive plays from Achiuwa, Plowden, and Clifford ensured the Kings' victory.
Unfortunately, the Kings were without forward Keegan Murray, who was sidelined due to a recurring ankle injury. Murray had just returned from a 20-game absence before re-aggravating the injury.
Looking ahead, the Kings will wrap up their road trip against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers, dealing with their own struggles, have a mixed history with the Kings this season, winning two of their three encounters. Sunday's matchup promises to be another exciting chapter in their rivalry.
