The Mavericks and Kings have both dipped into the pool of former second-round picks, adding Seth Lundy and Tristen Newton on training camp deals.
Dallas announced Lundy’s signing in a press release, and Michael Scotto of HoopsHype first reported that the agreement is expected to be a training camp deal. That points to a non-guaranteed contract, likely with Exhibit 9 and/or Exhibit 10 language attached.
Lundy, the 46th overall pick in the 2023 draft, spent his rookie year on a two-way contract with Atlanta. He played in nine NBA games and averaged 1.6 points in 5.8 minutes per contest. In the G League with the College Park Skyhawks, though, he was far more productive, putting up 20.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 blocks and 0.8 steals per game while shooting .462/.400/.803 in 25 games.
His 2024/25 season never got off the ground. Lundy spent several months on two-way deals with the Hawks and Clippers, but he didn’t appear in any games at the NBA or NBAGL level. The former Penn State wing was working his way back from left ankle surgery and wound up missing the entire season.
He returned in July and looked sharp in Summer League with Toronto, averaging 20.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.8 steals on .520/.438/1.000 shooting across four games.
Newton is in a similar spot in Sacramento. Keith Smith of Spotrac reported the Kings’ training camp agreement with the former second-rounder, who has played nine NBA games over the past two seasons on two-way contracts with Indiana, Minnesota and Houston.
The 25-year-old guard, who helped UConn win the 2024 national championship, was waived by the Rockets in late August. He then put together a strong G League season, averaging 25.8 points, 5.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals on .479/.365/.856 shooting in 49 combined games with the Iowa Wolves and Rio Grand Valley Vipers. He played 36.0 minutes per game in those outings.
Sacramento’s Stockton affiliate acquired Newton’s rights earlier this month in a trade, and he earned All-NBA G League first-team honors last season. The Kings still have one open two-way slot heading into camp, and Newton will have a chance to make a push for it this fall. Dallas, meanwhile, already has all three of its two-way spots filled.

So the focus has turned to creating a path, and that has reportedly included exploring a Domantas Sabonis trade to clear the necessary space. On The Matt George Podcast, Josh Lloyd of Locked On Fantasy Basketball took a long look at where the Kings could be headed in 2026-27, and his read was not exactly comforting.
