The Sacramento Kings spent Summer League doing more than just checking boxes on rookies. They also got a long look at Jonathan Mogbo, and the former Raptor made a strong case that he belongs on the main roster.
Toronto took Mogbo in the second round in 2024, and he flashed enough in his first season to leave a good impression on the organization and its fans. But after roster changes cut into his role in year two, the Raptors declined his team option for 2026-2027. Sacramento stepped in with a chance, and that fit makes sense for a team hunting for young players with upside.
Mogbo checks a lot of the boxes the Kings are after. He’s a 24-year-old power forward with defensive versatility, a knack for rebounding, and enough passing feel to help the offense move without needing the ball to be centered on him. He’s not a big scorer, but he brings consistency and does the little things that keep possessions alive and productive.
That showed up in Las Vegas. Mogbo appeared in four of Sacramento’s five Summer League games, sitting out the third game because of time and rotation management.
In those four outings, he put up 46 points, 35 rebounds, 11 assists, two steals, and six blocks. He also kept his fouls and turnovers low while posting a mostly positive +/-.
For a Kings team that still has a couple of main roster spots to sort through, that kind of production matters. Mogbo is on a two-year two-way contract right now, but Sacramento should be thinking seriously about moving him up sooner rather than later. He fits the profile, he fit the team in Summer League, and he looks like the kind of player who can help right away.
If the Kings do make that move, it would also clear a two-way opening for another Summer League standout, like Marquel Sutton. There’s no rush to lock anything in immediately, but this looks like a straightforward decision that could pay off for Sacramento.
