The Sacramento Kings are navigating a tricky situation as they deal with fresh injuries in their backcourt. This comes at a crucial time, with the team pushing through the final stretch of the season. During Sunday’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, guards Killian Hayes and rookie Nique Clifford both left the game early due to injuries, adding more uncertainty to their lineup.
Killian Hayes had to undergo an MRI after leaving the game in the second quarter. The results showed inflammation in his left toe, placing him on a day-to-day status.
Meanwhile, Nique Clifford, who exited in the fourth quarter, was diagnosed with a mild midfoot sprain. He’s expected to be out for at least a week before being reevaluated.
With just ten games left, the Kings’ rotation is looking pretty thin. Head coach Doug Christie will need to get creative during this East Coast road trip, especially since the team is already missing key players like Domantas Sabonis, De’Andre Hunter, Zach LaVine, and Drew Eubanks for the rest of the season. Keegan Murray’s return is also doubtful before the season wraps up in three weeks.
Adding to the challenge, Russell Westbrook and Precious Achiuwa are both dealing with injuries of their own, having missed the recent game against Charlotte.
Looking ahead, the Kings continue their road journey with a matchup against the Orlando Magic at the Kia Center on Thursday. The last time these teams met, Orlando handed Sacramento a hefty 131-94 defeat, thanks to a 30-point performance by Paolo Banchero.
