Kings Facing Big Franchise Decision On Kingston Flemings

The Kings face a pivotal decision as Kingston Flemings emerges as a potential franchise player in the upcoming NBA Draft.

In the lead-up to the 2026 NBA Draft, the buzz is all about AJ Dybansta, Darryn Peterson, and Cameron Boozer, who are expected to be the top picks. But don't sleep on Kingston Flemings, a player who could very well develop into a franchise cornerstone.

Flemings often finds himself projected as the fifth pick, trailing behind the top trio and Caleb Wilson. However, Darius Acuff is making waves and climbing the ranks. The Sacramento Kings, according to Sactown Sports’ Matt George, have shown interest in Acuff, though the pecking order remains uncertain.

To delve deeper into Flemings' potential, Matt George and Kayla Anderson from The Matt & Kayla Show brought in Kenneth Bowman, a University of Houston insider, for a chat. Houston's impressive season ended with a Sweet Sixteen loss to Illinois, featuring another lottery prospect, Keaton Wagler.

Bowman described the Cougars' season as "historical," highlighting head coach Kelvin Sampson's unusual reliance on freshmen, with Flemings being a standout. "Physically, he definitely grew in his mass," Bowman noted, recalling Flemings' breakout performance against Auburn, where he scored 22 points and dished out seven assists, putting the nation on alert.

Initially thought to be a two-year college player, Flemings quickly changed those expectations, emerging as a potential top 10, even top five pick. His freshman stats are impressive: starting all 37 games, he averaged 16.1 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.1 rebounds, shooting 47.6% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc, and 84.5% from the line.

As the Kings' GM Scott Perry searches for the team's next star, the draft presents a prime opportunity. While the top three picks are highly coveted, Flemings could be a significant addition. Bowman, however, sees Flemings more as a strong number two option, with Acuff possibly having the edge due to his scoring prowess and "it factor."

Currently, the Kings have the fourth-best odds in the draft lottery. If the season ended today, their pick could fall anywhere between first and eighth, with a 12.5% chance of landing in the top four. This is the sweet spot where both Flemings and Acuff become viable options.

The Kings continue their road trip against the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, aiming to bounce back from a tough 133-100 loss earlier in the season. Tune into Sactown Sports 1140 AM for all the action, with pregame coverage starting at 3:00 PM PT.
