The Sacramento Kings find themselves in a challenging spot, enduring a 15-game losing streak-the longest in franchise history. This skid highlights a stark decline for a team that once seemed poised for a lasting impact in the Western Conference. Their recent 131-94 defeat to the Orlando Magic dropped them to a league-worst 12-45 record, extending their winless run since January 16.
Keegan Murray, fresh off a six-week hiatus due to an ankle injury, was visibly at a loss after the game.
“It’s tough. I don’t really have words to explain it to be honest.
I don’t know if anyone has words to explain what’s transpired these last three or four years, but obviously we’ve got to change something because this obviously can’t happen. Not many teams in NBA history have gone 15 straight losses in a row,” he shared.
The Kings showed promise early on against Orlando, jumping to a 28-18 lead. However, the Magic turned the tide with an impressive display, shooting 76.2% in the second quarter and setting a franchise record with 27 made three-pointers.
Injuries have compounded Sacramento's struggles. Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine are sidelined for the season following surgeries, stripping the Kings of their key interior facilitator and top scorer. Sabonis, with averages of 19.2 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, was crucial to their offensive setup, and his absence is felt even more with LaVine out.
Murray’s return offers a glimmer of hope. He scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-7 from beyond the arc against the Magic. His performance hints at potential growth, but the Kings face a daunting task in turning their season around.
Next up, they face the San Antonio Spurs, kicking off a five-game road trip.
