Grizzlies Have One Availability Question That Could Change This Matchup

Both Sacramento and Memphis grapple with key injuries as the Kings seek their first win against the undefeated Grizzlies.

The Sacramento Kings are still searching for their first win of the 2026-27 season, and Sunday’s home game against the Memphis Grizzlies comes with some real injury intrigue on both sides.

Sacramento opened 0-2 with losses to the L.A. Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers, including a game against Portland where the Kings had a chance to finally get in the win column but came up short. Now they get another opportunity in a matchup that looks manageable on paper, even if Memphis arrives with more momentum than most expected.

The Grizzlies have opened 2-0, taking down the Utah Jazz and Golden State Warriors, and they’ll be aiming to keep that early run going in Sacramento. But both teams are bringing some key injury questions into the game.

For the Kings, Keegan Murray is the name to watch. He is listed as questionable with left ankle capsulitis after tweaking his ankle in the last game.

Ben Simmons has already been ruled out with a right Achilles tendon repair/surgery. There is nothing new from Cardwell, Raynaud, or Simmons, as all three remain sidelined, but Murray is the latest addition to the report.

Murray’s status matters a lot for Sacramento. He played only 23 games last season, and with his five-year, $140 million contract now active, the Kings need him available and producing.

Through two games this season, he has scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while shooting 5-17 from the field and 0-7 from three. Sacramento needs him to find a rhythm fast.

Hearing Keegan Murray’s disappearance during Friday night’s game was not a trip to the locker room - he was on a bike in the tunnel. Also hearing he is experiencing some stiffness in the ankle that he had surgery on in May and there is a chance he’ll be listed as questionable for…

If Murray can’t go, Sacramento could turn to Precious Achiuwa, Daeqwon Plowden, or Jonathan Mogbo in the starting lineup.

Memphis has its own absence to manage. The Grizzlies have ruled out starting center Zach Edey, which could open the door for a big night from Domantas Sabonis. Their injury report also includes another key player as questionable.

Even so, Memphis still brings plenty of firepower. Ty Jerome has been on a heater to start the year, leading the NBA with 36.5 points per game, and rookie Cameron Boozer has also made a strong early impact.

It’s a more favorable setup for the Kings with Edey sidelined, but this is still not the kind of game Sacramento can simply assume it will win. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. PT in Sacramento.

Kings Suddenly Have A Keegan Murray Concern They Cant Ignore

Keegan Murrays health has become a subtle but important subplot for the Kings after he tweaked his ankle in a recent loss and did not return, even though he was available. Sacramento is already keeping a close eye on him, and the situation carries a little extra weight because Murray is now listed as questionable for the next game against the Memphis Grizzlies with left ankle capsulitis, an issue tied to the surgery he had in May.

Doug Christie said the team made the choice to keep Murray on the bench late in the game, which suggests this is one of those injury situations the Kings are treating carefully rather than pushing through. For a team trying to stabilize its rotation, any concern involving Murray is worth watching closely, especially with the status still in flux heading into the matchup with Memphis. [Read more 🡒]

Kings Rebuild Already Faces A Debate Fans Cant Ignore

The Kings 2026-2027 season has been shaped by injuries and a steady stream of organizational uncertainty, and Scott Perrys first real answer has been to start reworking the roster. For a team that still wants to keep an eye on the future, the focus has shifted toward player development and trying to establish something more stable after a rocky stretch on and off the court.

Doug Christies standing and Vivek Ranadives role in basketball decisions remain part of the conversation around where Sacramento goes next. Even as the rebuild begins to take shape, the bigger question is whether the franchise can make the right personnel changes fast enough to give Perrys reset a real chance to stick. [Read more 🡒]

Kings Backcourt Battle Is Getting Tougher For Nique Clifford

The Kings backcourt competition is already starting to sharpen, and Emanuel Sharp has made the kind of early impression that can change a rotation fast. His three-point shooting has given Sacramento a needed boost, and his defensive effort has helped him earn more minutes than Nique Clifford in recent games, a notable development this early in the fight for playing time.

Sharps 50% mark from beyond the arc over his first two games has stood out, especially on a roster still sorting out reliable perimeter options. Clifford still brings more starting experience and some extra versatility on defense, but with Doug Christie praising Sharps potential, the battle is no longer just about upside. It is becoming about who can carve out a real role now. [Read more 🡒]
