In a surprising move just before the trade deadline, the Sacramento Kings dealt point guard Dennis Schroder to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It’s clear from his recent comments that Schroder isn’t thrilled about how things unfolded, and it’s easy to see why.
Schroder is a bit of an enigma. In international play, particularly with FIBA, he’s a standout performer.

The Kings brought Schroder on board during the 2025 offseason, hoping he’d be their new starting point guard. On the German-language Golden Hoops Podcast, Schroder shared his frustrations, suggesting that the Kings didn’t honor their commitments to him. While he didn’t delve into specifics, it was clear that the initial promises made to him weren’t kept.
The situation isn’t entirely unexpected. Schroder was initially pegged as the starting point guard but was soon benched in favor of Westbrook. Additionally, the Kings’ focus on developing young talent like Maxime Raynaud and Nique Clifford further sidelined him.
Despite the challenges, Schroder’s performance with the Kings was consistent with his NBA career. Sacramento’s current rebuilding phase is tough for any player, but Schroder’s experience there reflects the broader narrative of his time in the league.
