Rutgers’ women’s basketball non-conference schedule is built almost entirely with East Coast stops, and the contract details show a pretty clear pattern: modest guarantees for some opponents, a few bigger payouts for others, and one Thanksgiving trip where Rutgers is the team writing the check.
The Scarlet Knights’ home slate is packed with nearby programs. With one exception, there isn’t a team on the schedule from west of the Appalachians.
Princeton is part of a new home-and-home series at Jadwin Gym, and the contract doesn’t mention any money changing hands. The only extra item listed there is towel service.
Caldwell is the outlier in a different way. Rutgers will pay the Division II school $2,250 for an exhibition, and the contract also calls for 40 complimentary tickets. Seton Hall is the only other opponent that gets nothing in appearance fees, though that deal does include a home-and-home with the Pirates in 27-28 and 40 complimentary tickets.
From there, the guarantees climb as the schedule fills out.
St. Peter’s will receive $17,000 plus 40 complimentary tickets.
Coppin State gets $20,000, 40 comp tickets, and team meals up to $600. Lafayette and Albany are each set for $20,000 and the usual 40 tickets.
A cluster of teams lands at $25,000 apiece: Delaware State, Indiana State, LaSalle, LIU, and Maryland Eastern Shore. Each of those contracts also includes 40 tickets. LIU has already cashed in on the arrangement with a win.
Monmouth’s deal drops back to $20,000, but it comes with a notable wrinkle. The contract says, in bold print, that Rutgers will return to play Monmouth in a guaranteed game for the 2027-2028 season in the amount of $25,000. The Hawks also get 40 complimentary tickets.
The Thanksgiving weekend trip sends Rutgers to Daytona Beach for two games against South Dakota State and Georgetown. The event is run by Coast 2 Coast Women’s Basketball, which handles a number of tournaments, including this one.
In this case, Rutgers does not receive a payout. Instead, the Scarlet Knights pay to be there: “Total Package Price Paid to Coast 2 Coast WBB: $40,000.00”
That’s the basic give-and-take of these contracts. Some schools are treated as equals and no money changes hands.
Some opponents are worth a guarantee. And some events are set up so the visiting team pays to get in the door.

Rutgers Watched Michigan Players Turn This Loss Into A Draft Showcase
Michigans win over Rutgers came with a little extra scouting value for anyone tracking the next wave of NFL talent. The Wolverines moved to 5-3, but the bigger takeaway for pro evaluators was how several veterans handled the spotlight, especially on a defense that has leaned on its front and secondary to keep games under control. Senior nose tackle Enow Etta continued to show the kind of growth that has made him more interesting as the season has gone on, flashing both as a run defender and as a pass rusher.
The offensive side was more uneven for Michigan, with tackle Blake Frazier having a tougher afternoon than he would have liked, while cornerback Jyaire Hill held up well in coverage and saw plenty of action against Rutgers passing game. For Rutgers, it was the kind of game that doubled as a reminder that even in a loss, the film can still matter for what it says about the opponents across the line of scrimmage. [Read more 🡒]
Rutgers Let A Winnable Tournament Game Slip Away Late
Rutgers had a chance to turn a tight Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal into something bigger, but the game never really loosened up until the second half. The Scarlet Knights and Indiana spent much of the first half trading limited looks, and even with Rutgers finishing with a 6-5 edge in shots and a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners, the margin for error stayed razor thin in a 2-1 game.
Indiana struck twice in the third quarter, Rutgers answered to briefly level the match, and the late swing left the Scarlet Knights chasing the result down the stretch. It was the kind of loss that stings because it felt there to be taken, and it closed the book on a season that had enough promise to make the missed opportunity linger a little longer. [Read more 🡒]
Rutgers Women Are Showing The Identity Fans Wanted To See
The Rutgers women kept leaning into the kind of identity their fans have been waiting to see at Jersey Mikes Arena, and it showed in a 75-62 win over La Salle. Rutgers was in front for most of the afternoon, with the kind of steady control that comes from winning possessions, defending with purpose and making the other team work for every look.
Sophomore guard Mia Pauldo provided the spark, and the Scarlet Knights backed it up with a physical effort inside and active pressure on the perimeter. Rutgers created extra chances on the glass and made La Salle uncomfortable from deep, a combination that gave the home crowd a clearer picture of what this group can be when the effort and execution line up.
