Rutgers now knows exactly when and where the grind begins.
The Big Ten schedule for the 2026-2027 men’s basketball season is out, and with it come the tipoff times and TV assignments for every game. Rutgers enters the year coming off a 14-20 season and a roster that has been heavily reshaped through the transfer portal, but the bigger storyline hangs over the sideline: head coach Steve Pikiell is recovering after successful surgery for a cancer diagnosis and will be in treatment during the season. Assistant head coach Brandin Knight will handle the responsibilities in his place.
The calendar gives Rutgers a clear early measuring stick. The non-conference slate includes games in the Players Era Tournament and a matchup with Seton Hall, both of which should tell the Knights a lot about what this group can be. Later in the year, Rutgers gets a chance to make up ground, with three meetings against Penn State and Maryland coming in the final five games of the regular season.
The home schedule opens Friday, Nov. 6 against New Haven at 7 p.m. on BTN+, followed by NJIT on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. on BTN. Bryant comes to town Friday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m., with that broadcast listed on BTN or BTN+.
Rutgers then heads to Las Vegas for the Players Era Festival, starting Tuesday, Nov. 17 against Houston at 2 p.m. at Michelob ULTRA Arena. The other two games in the event are listed as TBD matchups on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and Thursday, Nov. 19, with all three airing on ESPN.
Back home, the Knights host Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m. on BTN+, then jump into a December stretch that includes a road game at Indiana on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. on FS1. Michigan visits on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. on BTN, before the Garden State Hardwood Classic brings Seton Hall to Rutgers on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m. on FS1.
Saint Peter’s comes to town Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. on BTN, and Army follows on Sunday, Dec. 20 at noon on BTN. Rutgers closes the month at home against Delaware State on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. on Peacock.
The Big Ten stretch starts with a trip to Purdue on Saturday, Jan. 2 at noon on BTN, then UCLA visits on Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. on BTN and USC comes in Friday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. on FS1. Iowa is next at home on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 8:30 p.m. on BTN, before Rutgers heads to Northwestern on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. on BTN.
Maryland comes to the forefront quickly after that, with Rutgers visiting College Park on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. on BTN. The road trip continues with Oregon on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 11 p.m. on BTN and Washington on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. on BTN.
February brings Purdue back to Jersey on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. on BTN, then Syracuse at Barclays Center on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. on ESPN. Rutgers follows with a trip to Michigan State on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m. on BTN and a home game against Wisconsin on Saturday, Feb. 13 at noon on BTN.
The final road stretch includes Nebraska on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. on BTN and Ohio State on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m. on FS1. In between, Penn State visits on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. on Peacock. Rutgers Let A Ranked Test Slip And Another One Awaits
Rutgers got a front-row lesson in the margins of Big Ten soccer on Friday night, falling 2-1 to No. 7 Maryland at Yurcak Field in front of a season-high 614 fans. Amer Lukovic supplied the lone goal for the Scarlet Knights, but Maryland struck first and spent much of the night controlling the terms before finding the winner late in the second half.
The result stings because it came in a game that felt within reach and because the schedule does not offer much time to regroup. Rutgers heads to No. 20 Wisconsin next, another ranked road test, before returning home to host Indiana in what shapes up as another demanding stretch for a team still trying to turn close chances into statement results. Rutgers Needs This Ohio State Game To End One Frustrating Drought
Rutgers field hockey heads to Columbus for a lone matchup with Ohio State on Friday at 1 p.m., a meeting that carries extra weight because the Scarlet Knights are still looking for their first Big Ten victory. Rutgers comes in at 6-6, and this has become the kind of conference stretch where every chance matters, especially against an opponent that has also had a rough autumn and will be available live on B1G+.
Ohio State enters on a five-game losing streak and sits at 4-7, which gives Rutgers a real opening to change its conference trajectory before the schedule tightens further. The Scarlet Knights have played enough solid hockey to stay in the mix, but the next step is turning that into a result that can finally loosen the pressure around a drought that has lingered through the league slate. Rutgers Swimming Opens With A Chance To Prove Its New Promise
Rutgers swimming and diving opens its season this weekend with a home Invitational that gives the Scarlet Knights an early chance to show how much better they can be. The event will stretch across Friday and Saturday at the Rutgers Aquatic Center, with multiple sessions and a field that includes Army, St. Bonaventure, Northeastern, Boston College and Fordham.
There is real intrigue in how Rutgers pieces this group together, because the roster blends proven returners with newcomers and includes several athletes who earned Big Ten Preseason Swimmers and Divers to Watch recognition. Early meets can be tricky to read, but for a team looking to turn promise into results, this one should offer a useful first look at both its depth and its direction. [Read more 🡒]
