Rutgers has its non-conference slate locked in for the 2026-27 season, and it brings the usual Steve Pikiell mix: a few real tests, a bunch of games the Scarlet Knights will be expected to handle, and a third straight trip to Las Vegas.
The 12-game schedule gives Rutgers seven low-major opponents in theory, plus the kind of high-major matchups that can sharpen a team before Big Ten play takes over. It also comes at a time when Pikiell is entering what could be a make-or-break 11th season.
The biggest spotlight early will be the Players Era Eight in Las Vegas from Nov. 17-20.
Rutgers opens there against Houston on Nov. 17 at Michelob Ultra Arena. From there, the Scarlet Knights will play either Florida or Notre Dame the next day, then finish against one of Auburn, Kansas, UNLV or West Virginia, depending on how the rest of the event unfolds.
Before that trip, Rutgers will open with three home games: New Haven on Friday, Nov. 6, NJIT on Tuesday, Nov. 10 and Bryant on Friday, Nov. 13.
The rest of the non-conference board has the familiar mix of local and regional opponents. Rutgers will host Sacred Heart on Tuesday, Nov.
24, Seton Hall on Saturday, Dec. 12, St.
Peter’s on Wednesday, Dec. 16, Army on Sunday, Dec. 20 and Delaware State on Tuesday, Dec.
The annual meeting with Seton Hall remains on the schedule, and Rutgers also picked up Syracuse for Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, a neutral-site game tucked into the middle of its Big Ten stretch.
As for the conference road slate, Rutgers will travel to Indiana, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon, Ohio State and Washington.
The league has not yet released dates, tip times or television information.

Rutgers Camp Optimism Comes Down To Two Huge Schiano Questions
Rutgers is heading into its 2026 opener against UMass with a familiar mix of hope and unfinished business, and much of the optimism around camp starts with Greg Schianos latest reset. The Scarlet Knights are working through an open quarterback battle after Athan Kaliakmanis moved on, while Schiano has also reworked parts of the staff and turned over the defense in an effort to raise the standard after last season.
The offense is still sorting itself out, too, with new line coach Jim Turner trying to create more competition and flexibility up front. For a program that wants this fall to look cleaner and more complete than the last one, the biggest questions are still the kind Schiano has to answer in practice, not on paper. Who settles the quarterback job, and whether the reshaped roster can hold together when the games start, will go a long way toward defining how far this team can climb. [Read more 🡒]
Rutgers Just Learned How Tough Pikiells Next Proving Ground Will Be
Rutgers is already getting a clearer picture of what the 2026-27 non-conference slate will look like, and it has the feel of a schedule built to test the Scarlet Knights in a few different ways. There are the usual low-major tuneups, but there are also the games that will draw real attention in New Jersey, including meetings with Seton Hall and Syracuse, plus a trip to the Players Era Eight tournament in Las Vegas that should give the program an early gauge against higher-level competition.
The rest of the calendar is taking shape around that mix, with Rutgers set for 12 non-conference games before diving back into its 20-game Big Ten grind. There are also exhibition dates lined up against Villanova and St. John's, with the latter still awaiting a final date, and that collection of opponents says plenty about the kind of proving ground Steve Pikiell is building for his group before league play even begins.
