Rutgers has put the finishing touch on its 2026-27 roster, and the final piece comes from one of Europe’s stronger leagues.
The Scarlet Knights signed Mervedi Miteo, a 17-year-old forward from the Democratic Republic of Congo who most recently played for Gran Canaria in Spain, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NJ.com on Tuesday. The 6-foot-10 prospect is expected to have five years of eligibility.
Miteo spent most of the season with Gran Canaria’s under-22 team, where he put up 11.9 points per game while shooting 51.3% overall. That line included 54.2% on two-point attempts, 12.5% from three and 58.1% at the free-throw line. He also averaged 7.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals, one assist and 2.2 turnovers in 22 minutes over 24 appearances.
He also saw action in seven Liga ACB games, one of the top domestic basketball leagues in the world. In those brief appearances, he averaged 1.4 points on 75% shooting on twos and 80% shooting from the line, along with 0.3 rebounds, 0.1 steals and 0.1 turnovers in 2.1 minutes per game.
Miteo is Rutgers’ ninth addition of the offseason. He joins transfers Rasheed Jones (Coastal Carolina), Darin Smith (Central Connecticut State), Will Sydnor (Manhattan), Christian Gurdak (Virginia Tech), Dorin Buca (Kansas State), high school signee Imahri Wooten and international prospects Diego Garavaglia (Italy) and Martin Tonejc (Slovenia).
With the signing, Rutgers is now at 15 scholarships for the 2026-27 season and has no open roster spots left. That means the roster is complete.
One change to note: Lewis Duarte, a guard from the Dominican Republic who committed to the program this offseason, will not be part of the 2026-27 roster, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ.com.
