Rutgers is making waves in the recruitment scene, particularly with their sights set on in-state talent for the class of 2028. One standout prospect, Davis Walker from Cherokee High School in Marlton, N.J., is catching attention. Standing tall at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 195 pounds, Walker received an offer from Rutgers just last month and recently returned to the campus for an immersive visit.
Walker isn't just on Rutgers' radar; he's also attracted interest from major programs like Penn State and Tennessee. Reflecting on his recent visit to Rutgers, Walker shared his experiences with Scarlett Nation.
"I really enjoyed the visit," he said. "From touring the facilities and living areas to getting some field work in and spending time at Coach Greg Schiano's house, it was a great experience.
The specialized recovery equipment definitely stood out."
Rutgers has made it clear that Walker is a high-priority recruit for their 2028 class. "While it seemed like everyone received similar attention, they made me feel like a priority," Walker noted.
"Each recruit had a host, and we were fortunate to have Kyle Devaney, the assistant of player development, guiding us. He ensured we had a memorable visit.
During the camp, it was just me and one other edge rusher, so we had exclusive coaching from assistant defensive ends coach Joe Evans and rush ends coach Joe Woodley."
Walker also expressed his admiration for the coaching staff, saying, "Things have been good between me and the staff. I have a lot of respect for every coach I've met.
They're pretty cool too. Coach Evans showed me a proper rip move and helped me refine it to be more effective."
This visit marked another positive step in Rutgers' pursuit of Walker. "Before the visit, I already thought highly of Rutgers, and being there in person confirmed my suspicions," he shared.
Looking ahead, Walker is eager to see the team in action as his recruitment journey continues. "Aside from Rutgers, I've been hearing a lot from Tennessee, Syracuse, and Illinois. I'm planning to attend a few games this fall, but I'm still figuring out which ones I can make."
