Rutgers Football is making a strategic move by bringing in Gino Gradkowski, a seasoned former NFL center and Super Bowl XLVII champion with the Baltimore Ravens, to bolster their coaching staff as an assistant offensive line coach. At 37, Gradkowski transitions into this role after a notable six-year NFL career, where he appeared in 60 games, starting in 20 of them, before pivoting to coaching.
Gradkowski's coaching journey has been impressive, particularly at the collegiate level. Over the past four years, he has been a key figure at DIII Rowan.
In 2024 and 2025, he took on the role of offensive coordinator, demonstrating his knack for leadership and strategy. Before that, he served as Rowan’s offensive line coach in 2022 and 2023, contributing significantly under the guidance of head coach Pat Ruley.
His efforts paid off in 2025 when he helped guide Rowan to the playoffs, marking their first appearance since 2014.
Adding to his diverse coaching resume, Gradkowski also spent time in the UFL, serving as the offensive line coach for the St. Louis Battlehawks in 2024. This stint coincided with current Rutgers offensive line coach Jim Turner’s tenure with the Memphis Showboats, showcasing a shared history in the league.
Gradkowski's NFL roots run deep, having been selected in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Ravens. His rookie season culminated in a Super Bowl victory, with him participating in all 16 games. He stepped up as the starting center in 2013 after the retirement of Matt Birk.
In 2015, Gradkowski's career took him to the Denver Broncos following a trade, although he was waived before the season began. He then joined the Atlanta Falcons for the remainder of 2015, and later, the Carolina Panthers, where he signed a three-year contract.
Unfortunately, an injury in 2016 led to his release from the Panthers. He wrapped up his playing days with the Broncos, appearing in seven games in 2018.
Gradkowski's blend of professional playing experience and diverse coaching roles makes him a valuable addition to the Rutgers coaching staff, promising to bring fresh insights and expertise to their offensive line strategy.
