Rutgers Athletics is turning support for Steve Pikiell into action.
The school announced the launch of Rutgers Tough, a fundraising campaign built around the men’s basketball coach, his wife Kate and his recent cancer diagnosis. At the center of it all is a limited-edition Rutgers Tough Nike T-shirt, with every dollar from sales going to RWJBarnabas Health to aid cancer treatment and patient care.
Fans will get their first chance to buy the shirt on Friday, Nov. 6, when Rutgers opens its men’s basketball home schedule against New Haven at Jersey Mike’s Arena. The shirts are priced at $30 and will be sold while supplies last during the Scarlet Knights’ first three games.
Those games are: Friday, Nov. 6 vs.
New Haven at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10 vs.
NJIT at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13 vs.
Bryant at 6 p.m.
Rutgers is also giving fans another way to help. A fund has been set up through the Rutgers Cancer Institute for donations in support of cancer research. The institute is one of the National Cancer Institute’s elite comprehensive cancer centers in the country and the only one in New Jersey.
Pikiell, now in his 11th season with the Scarlet Knights, revealed on Sept. 9 that he had been diagnosed with cancer and had already undergone successful surgery. He is still receiving treatment. When he spoke publicly about it, he made his approach plain: "Just as I ask my team to fight and embrace challenges head-on, I'm going to attack cancer the same way."
The Rutgers Tough message fits the coach’s identity and the program’s tone. Rutgers described it as a rallying point for the community, and as more than just a slogan tied to basketball.
The campaign video features support from several Rutgers standouts, including Ron Harper Jr., Dylan Harper, Ace Bailey, Geo Baker, Caleb McConnell, Paul Mulcahy, Clifford Omoruyi, Cam Spencer and Jacob Young.
Nike, All Colors and Follett provided the backing that allowed Rutgers to direct 100 percent of the T-shirt proceeds to RWJBarnabas Health.

Former Rutgers Transfers Are Already Giving Fans Plenty To Watch
Opening night of the 2026 season gave Rutgers fans an immediate look at how several former Scarlet Knights fit with their new teams. A handful of transfers were in action right away, and the box scores offered a first glimpse of what each player can bring after leaving Piscataway, with individual contributions spread across different games and roles.
There was also some unfinished business attached to the exodus. Derek Simpson is still waiting to get on the floor for Providence after his NCAA fight hit a setback, and Chris Nwuli is not expected to suit up for Seton Hall this winter while he deals with personal issues back home. For Rutgers followers tracking the programs roster churn, the opening week served as a reminder that the transfer story is still very much unfolding. [Read more 🡒]
Rutgers Offense Faces Two Huge Questions Before Wisconsin
Rutgers heads into its meeting with Wisconsin carrying a couple of offensive unknowns that could shape the game plan. Wide receiver KJ Duffs status is up in the air after he left the previous game with an injury, and quarterback AJ Surace is also being monitored as the Scarlet Knights work through a competition with Gavin Lonergan.
Greg Schiano addressed both situations during a recent practice, keeping the focus on availability as the week moves on. For a Rutgers offense that could use stability, the next few days will go a long way toward determining how much flexibility the staff has when the Badgers come to town. [Read more 🡒]
